I'm not going to debate the 21st Century standing of 2017, but if you think it is the best year for films in the history of films, well then, I'd like to introduce you to 1939. A partial list: The Wizard of Oz Gone With the Wind Mr. Smith Goes to Washington Stagecoach Of Mice and Men Dark Victory The Hunchback of Notre Dame Young Mr. Lincoln The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes Beau Geste The Cat and the Canary Union Pacific Son of Frankenstein Another Thin Man And that's just a sampling. Also, not my problem if you aren't familiar with the films, doesn't make them any less valid. Like salomonj already said I meant one of the best, not the best. And I think it's the best year for movies of the 21st century together with 2014 (and maybe 2006). I haven't seen every single movie from your list, but I agree that 1939 was an incredible year for movies with many iconic movies and I think a valid argument can be made for it to be the best year for movies, but that was not what I said in my post. I never said 2017 was the best year of all-time, just that it was a fantastic year for movies and possibly one of the best I can remember. Between 'Children of Men', 'The Prestige' and 'Pan's Labyrinth' certainly puts 2006 up there. Still haven't seen 'Babel' but it's directed from Inarritu so I fully expect it to be fanastic.

My main issue with the sequel trilogy is The Force Awakens. It's such a poor foundation (all it is a lazy remake of A New Hope) that it casts a pall over the rest of the films.
There are things about Last Jedi I like: Mark Hamill does a great job and I liked the Yoda cameo. I enjoyed the bit where Finn and Rose investigate the casino and riviera. Enjoyed the scene of Rey and Kylo joining forces (loved the way he takes out Snoke). The bit where the star destroyer is cut in half was pretty cool too.
Things I didn't like: Just as The Force Awakens remade A New Hope, I felt like The Last Jedi copied bits from The Empire Strikes Back (the main jedi hero seeks out hermit master, Rey entering a cave full of dark force energy is like the same bit with Luke on Dagobah, another rebel/empire battle with AT-AT's, and Poe disobeying his superiors is like Han recklessly running from the empire). They built up Snoke to be the big bad in the previous film and write him off too soon.

My expectations of this movie were rock bottom after things I'd read about it.
I wasn't even going to watch it but I decided to rent it (finally) a few weeks ago.
I really loved it.
10/10

Where is the 0/10 option? That's my rating for it. My rating for the next "episode" will most likely be in the negatives.

6.5/10 it's a marked improvement over the fanfic rehash of Force Awakens. But this is still not original or imaginative enough, and it's plagued by logic holes, juvenile Marvel-esque Yo Mama humor and bad pacing. The out-of-character portrayals were an issue too, including Yoda.

Great production values and effects. The story is more of the same. I'm just not invested in this ongoing saga that goes round and round and doesn't go anywhere.
The Jedi are dead. No, they're not. The resistance is dead? No, it's not. It's interminable.
I don't care at all about Poe or Rey or Finn or even Leia. Laura Dern's character was the worst of all. Pedantic performances.
I did kinda enjoy Mark Hamill returning as Luke, though his death seemed tacked on.
And Kylo Ren I think emerges as the most interesting newer character.
It's not a good sign for a film like this when you start to root for the bad buys.
Still, it does have some rousing scenes and the last half hour saves it.
7/10

Still a flawed masterpiece.
As good as the originals.

7/10 Really a 7.5/10. I don't have much problems with it. Still, I prefer TFA.

7/10 Really a 7.5/10. I don't have much problems with it. Still, I prefer TFA. Yeah, stuff like Leia flying through space, your momma jokes, a million AT ATs standing in a line and shooting Luke, Luke refusing to help his friends and family, the Imperials being complete clowns, Snoke being killed without the audience ever even knowing who or what he was, a literal giant door being blasted by a literal giant laser being the climax, Captain Phasma (again), Finn and Rose getting arrested for illegally parking...etc etc etc were riveting. Just a complete piece of garbage. It still boggles my mind how that all got approved. To top it off they barely give Luke any screentime or anything to do and kill him off. You know, so we could get to the important stuff like the "Master Codebreaker" and Finn and Rose riding around on space horses. Who didn't love that scene?
