I saw a thread originating from John the Admin dude recently. He mentioned he was tired of the amount of reporting on this board alone. I understand where his frustration as it has to be a thankless job.
I am posting this poll for the Admins and moderators to take a look at. This one has to do with hate threads; what I refer to as a hate thread is one that promotes racism, homophobia or sexist thoughts. It could also include outright bullying such as "Do you think poster X should commit suicide because they are a loser?". These things have always been with us as a society but seem to get worse when there are individuals in society who a certain infamy promoting hateful ideas. Some argue that free speech is always paramount above all other things. Consider the Westboro Baptist Church. Some say they are only engaging if in their right to free speech when they protest funerals. So when does their right to free speech not be a free speech issue but become criminal harassment? How about Hitler's anti-Semitism? His ranting encouraged Kristallnact in Germany. Eventually the Holocaust happened. How about Trump's rants about Mexicans and Muslims giving rise to disturbing racial incidents.
Just my rambling thoughts.

If "Hate Speech" is to be a rule then it needs to apply to all, not just Lefties and non Whites etc claiming hate speech when they are challenged and in the same breath attacking white people.
The "Do you think Trump rapes Melania" thread is also a good example of a stupid, hate mongering thread.

i didn't come here for the sometimes gross lack of maturity. i'm here to write. and write i shall. and as much as i don't look forward to writing about hate and its associated topics, it is still a topic to deal with.
unfortunately on a forum like this, where posters feel like they can get away with anything, the bitter has to be taken with the sweet.
jesus, i survived the nixon, raygun, both bush administrations and now forty five. so, i think what occasionally happens here seems rather banal.

John has already made it clear that he must follow the guidelines by ProBoards or risk losing the whole site. Just how he decides to enforce those guidelines remains to be seen. If he starts deleting "hate speech" I'm afraid he's going to be very busy. And frankly, that just encourages some people to report everything with which they disagree.

I think admins should delete whatever doesn;t fit with the terms and conditions of the site Basically this. I tend to think that the only thing hate speech/threads accomplish is to turn more people against the hateful. The already-hateful will obviously agree with it, so they don't matter; but the neutral will just get to recognize it for what it is and who thinks it.

If it goes that far, action should be taken. But remember people, either ignore the fool or block them. This is what killed the original IMDb. Don't let the nuts take over again.

There are problems with your "rambling thoughts". - Not everyone agrees that there's even such a thing as "homophobia", much less what it is.
- Westboro Baptist is a media creation, and actually comprises one family. You all give them the oxygen of publicity without which they'd just fade away, and you treat them as if they are a real church.
- Who gets to decide that a thread is guilty of the above crimes? The moderators are all of one mind - agnostic/atheist/homosexual, any or all of the above. That means that decision would all be very one-sided.

The fact that certain posters do not recognise that homophobia exists just highlights their own homophobia. I say leave the threads to reveal people for what and who they are. I am sure when the word racism was first uttered in the 1800's no one acknowledged or welcomed such a word and it wasn't until 1902 when Henry Pratt used it that is was starting to become more 'accepted'. Most won't recognise the Westboro church, citing it is not. 'Real' church. However, those same posters don't believe Anglican is a real church either ( the Queen will be so upset) let's leave the hate speech there and watch the hate posters be hung by their own petard.

I agree. Plus I prefer the threads/posts to remain on record because there are those who apparently forget and later deny having made such posts.

I voted for the third option. If someone is being bullied and it bothers them, then they can ignore it, and even block the user. It's rather pathetic to report because your feelings have been hurt. But realistically, if the admins allow abusive content, it is conceivable that this board could be reported to ProBoards. I think that this happened on another board of which I was a member.

How about Hitler's anti-Semitism? His ranting encouraged Kristallnact in Germany. Eventually the Holocaust happened. How about Trump's rants about Mexicans and Muslims giving rise to disturbing racial incidents. Just my rambling thoughts. Your poll doesn't really have an option that fits me. There is certainly "hate speech" but I am strongly against prohibiting it or socially penalizing it, and I don't believe that it's categorically bad. If people can't deal with strong negative opinions about them, that's their problem. Everyone needs to learn and be able to deal with the fact that some folks really aren't going to like something about them or the choices they make--to an extent where some people are going to feel that there's something wrong with them, that maybe they're mentally ill or evil or whatever, and they're going to be hated. Not everyone is going to like you no matter what you do. And you certainly can't force or socially pressure them to like you. That doesn't work. You have to realize that just because someone thinks something or feels however they do, that doesn't mean that it's true. That couldn't be more important to learn. And it's not just important to learn for hate speech. It's important to learn that it applies just as much when politicians, or religious leaders, or scientists, or teachers, or media figures, etc. etc. are saying something. Go ahead and have strong negative opinions against people with strong negative opinions, and express those opinions. But legal or social sanctions for speech, lifestyle choices, demographic facts, etc. are a no-no in my book. So my answer is, 'There is hate speech, but it's no big deal. Everyone needs to learn how to parse it and let it flow right off of their backs. Let's not promote the idea of being ridiculously sensitive, as if we all have eggshell egos that need to be coddled, as if we're all extremely impressionable/gullible."
