Unless Kylo was lying, there is always that possibility... (But she sensed it, but kylo put that thought in her head) Why oh why people just assume everything is as is in Star Wars? Nothing is as is, everything is from a certain point of view. You should know that by now... The PT ruined that part of SW for those not fortunate to see the OT first. Nah, her parents are junkers. Every other plot thread that RJ actually addressed in this movie was done so in as lame a way as could be imagined. I see no reason to believe that he's feinting like this is another lame answer, but secretly has some great trick up his sleeve. Nah, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice...uh..I...uh and I won't get fooled again. Disney pulled the wool over my eyes with TFA. They'll never the chance again. I'll still check out certain Marvel films, but they've taken my last token on Star Wars. Ok. Fair enough. I will be waiting for episode IX with great anticipation. Have a good one.

You claimed to work for Disney- how close were you to the production of this movie? When did i claim that? It was a joke if i did. Pretty close to the production, but i don't work for disney.

You claimed to have inside information about the Fox deal. Implication was that you were a Disney insider...

It would have been very predictable and cliché to make her a Skywalker or Solo. Hell, most people were expecting it. It would have been about as shocking as Han's death. I'm glad they didn't go that route.I also think it's possible that Ben was lying, but I hope that's not the case.

So... Vader is Luke's father! WOW! ....oh wait, that was ESB. Skip to next spoiler. Rey's parents are nobodies? WTF? Then WHY is she so important/talented and at the center of this trilogy? If she's not related to anyone then it's just totally random that she's the hero, innit? And most importantly: WHY EVEN CREATE THIS MYSTERY ABOUT HER ORIGIN? Perhaps I should withhold judgement until I see the movie. No, I don't think you need to do that at all, it's just as retarded as it sounds.

I'll take predictable over retarded. Some people like to be fed shit, and then say it tastes good. Besides, the only reason it was "predictable" in the first place is because Disney Wars made such a big damn deal about the Rey parentage mystery box in the first place that everyone on the internet came up with a possible answer. Based on the ubiquitous entries, there were potentially (about) 10 possibilities that were all predictable. Kind of shakes up the meaning of "predictable" though, doesn't it?

While the reveal was oddly refreshing, it negates our awe of potential lineage.
Part of me was thinking she would've been born of Luke's dna somehow.

My question is: Why did Daisy Ridley think it was "obvious" from TFA that her parents were alkies who solder her for beer money? Unless J.J. originally had a different backstory, and Rian changed it for TLJ.

She could've been revealed as Luke's daughter in TFA. In fact, that would've made her quest to find him so much more meaningful.

I cannot even count the number of threads complaining about this for the past two years. Everyone was all up in arms and tired of everything relating back to the Skywalkers. They were also sick of the total remake of A New Hope that was The Force Awakens. Then The Last Jedi comes out and we find out Rey is not a Skywalker and the movie actually has some originality and the same people complain. It is hilarious.

Wel, I admit that it would've been a bit lazy, but I don't really see how her being a random orphan makes her any more interesting. I just think the saga should always be about the family from the OT. And I do think that her being Luke's daughter and Kylo's cousin would've given this trilogy more weight.

LOL, seriously, I'm not kidding, I would have given anything for her to be Ben's sister. It's what I called for from the moment I saw TFA. I would've happily taken Luke's daughter, Palpatine's granddaughter, Obi Wan's daughter or granddaughter, hell, I would've even drunk the koolaid on that reincarnation of the Chosen One idea. But what we got, my stomach can't handle.

Again, you prove, in your haste, that you don't really know what you're talking about. I applauded TFA vigorously over the last two years on this site and others. Check the history, bud. I never once complained about originality. Not fucking once. Sorry I don't fit into your tidy box of people who don't like TLJ. I loved TFA, argued against Rey as Mary Sue, defended Abrams, etc. for TWO YEARS. Ask these guys. The same ones you're arguing with? I argued with them for two years. The fact of the matter is that this movie - TLJ particularly - was a complete fuck-up. That's my opinion and it has zilch to do with your hypothesis above.
