I don't think even you believe this. There's nothing exciting or meaningful about that. Wel, I admit that it would've been a bit lazy, but I don't really see how her being a random orphan makes her any more interesting. I just think the saga should always be about the family from the OT. And I do think that her being Luke's daughter and Kylo's cousin would've given this trilogy more weight.A bit? I'm not sure how you could type these two statements in the same paragraph either. They directly contradict one another.

The Saga films are the story of the FUCKING SKYWALKER FAMILY. You just answered your question, bud. I have been on the Interwebs long enough to know that there is enough people who don't want it to be about them anymore. When these movies were first announced and it was revealed that the old cast would be playing supporting roles, most people were completely fine with it.

Nor have I read anyone say that on the Interhighways. Star Wars is about the Skywalkers.

Sometimes obvious plot points are obvious for a reason- they're the right choice for a story.

By making Rey a random makes the Skywalkers less special. If u want Random jerks go watch Rogue One. (Raddus being the jerk exception)

I would've went with a originally planned-from-the-beginning subversion lampshaded inside the movie by some Kreia-expy and inspired by KOTOR 2 instead of the hackjob by Abrams. "Perhaps you were expecting some surprise, for me to reveal a secret that had eluded you, something that would change your perspective of events, shatter you to your core. There is no great revelation, no great secret. There is only you."Hey! You got a....nope.

This is so true. I cannot even count the number of threads complaining about this for the past two years. Everyone was all up in arms and tired of everything relating back to the Skywalkers. They were also sick of the total remake of A New Hope that was The Force Awakens. Then The Last Jedi comes out and we find out Rey is not a Skywalker and the movie actually has some originality and the same people complain. It is hilarious. Again, you prove, in your haste, that you don't really know what you're talking about. I applauded TFA vigorously over the last two years on this site and others. Check the history, bud. I never once complained about originality. Not fucking once. Sorry I don't fit into your tidy box of people who don't like TLJ. I loved TFA, argued against Rey as Mary Sue, defended Abrams, etc. for TWO YEARS. Ask these guys. The same ones you're arguing with? I argued with them for two years. The fact of the matter is that this movie - TLJ particularly - was a complete fuck-up. That's my opinion and it has zilch to do with your hypothesis above. Dude I did not mention or even think about you at all.

How the fuck would that be lazy? The Saga films are the story of the FUCKING SKYWALKER FAMILY. Ben Solo? Solo is still a son of a Skywalker though! What's your point? Just because culture dictates that he take his fathers name doesn't mean he doesn't still have as much Skywalker blood as Luke's son would have.

But Kylo proves how much more interesting the relationship between these characters are when they're related. Imagine if Kylo was some random dude. It would make him far less compelling.
