Cowboys-Raiders should be an interesting SNF Game even if it’s not as good as some of the earlier stuff, nothing will beat Pats-Steelers. I hope the Cowboys win, I would like to see them be in playoff contention when Zeke returns next week, and besides, I dislike the Raiders, their obnoxious fanbase and particularly their smug religious fanatic QB. A few weeks ago I was about to ask you about this, but forgot. Isn't it a bit strange to blame Carr for being religious, in a league that features or have featured people accused of being rapists, convicted murderers, people who got away with murder, various spouse beaters, child beaters, girlfriend beaters, users of PED, illicit drug users, drunks, dog torturers/murderers, toxic antisocials, people who target their colleagues on purpose trying to disable them under the risk of maiming them for life, and so on and so forth? I mean, yeah, Tim Tebow annoyed me given his proselytism. But I believe Carr is a lot more discreet; must be, because as a matter of fact, I didn't even know that he was a religious fanatic until you mentioned it (unlike Tebow who was a lot more explicit and proactive about it). I'd say that being quietly religious is one of the smallest peccadilloes one could have, in the NFL. Mind you, I'm not religious myself (and I'm not a Raiders fan), and I don't have a very favorable view of religion, but I just found it a bit strong to blame Carr for his beliefs while his behavior is not reprehensible; at least not that I've noticed. Would you mind justifying a bit more why you feel this way? Just curious. I don’t dislike all religious players, Carr just seems smug and self righteous about it. He doesn’t spew it like Tebow did but Carr just strikes me as very smug and superior where as Tebow seemed to try to convert everyone to his beliefs. I may dislike him more because I find the Raiders overall to be obnoxious, their fans, their ownership etc, but Carr rubs me the wrong way. Another factor is how Carr became somewhat of a hero to certain far right trolls after the Trump/anthem debacle when these racist idiots accused the Raiders O-Line of not protecting Carr because he stood for the anthem, I know none of that was Carr’s fault but it just made me root against him harder. So those are the reasons I’m not a Carr fan. And BTW, I do hate the types of players you mentioned, the likes of Jameis Winston, Adrian Peterson, Ray Lewis, Ray Rice, Michael Vick, Richie Incognito etc. I hate those guys much more than I hate Carr.

Couple of idiotic plays the last two games today.
Pittsburgh doesn't down the ball to take the sure thing, which is a field goal, and now Carr doesn't run out of bounds.

Holy shit, that was idiotic by Derek Carr!! Stuff like that is why I think he’s overrated. Glad the Cowboys won

That was idiotic. He folded the card, and when he stuck it in there, it sprung open and moved the football! wtf

Back to Jesus and Sports. Eagles are a very religious team. Here's Carson Wentz's foundation A01: Here's Eagles WR Marcus Johnson being baptized in a pool while teammates join hands:

Re-posting because I was of this opinion in two threads so I'm posting this about-face here too.
I'll do an about-face on this. I was wrong. I looked up the rule book and dumb or not the way it is currently written, it supports the refs' decision. I was thinking about the fact that the player wasn't touched, that he had his knee down at the half-yard line with firm possession before he extended the play by stretching into the end zone, I thought he had all the right to do this since he wasn't touched, and then the ball broke the plane before it hit the ground and got loose. But the rule book clearly does anticipate for these objections and then dismisses them so I was wrong. Here is what it says:
"A player who goes to the ground in the process of attempting to secure possession of a loose ball (with or without contact by an opponent) must maintain control of the ball until after his initial contact with the ground, whether in the field of play or the end zone. If he loses control of the ball, and the ball touches the ground before he regains control, there is no possession."
"A player is considered to be going to the ground if he does not remain upright long enough to demonstrate that he is clearly a runner."
OK, so, with or without contact by an opponent, whether in the field of play or the end zone, and must remain upright long enough.
That settles it. So my two points don't apply, and definitely he wasn't upright.
OK, so, no TD.
Then, I said the rule is dumb and must be changed. But I read today an explanation on the fact that the NFL did consider the change but decided against it, and it is for good reason. Here:
"The only real alternative is to redefine a catch to any instance where a player has the ball securely in his hands and is satisfactorily in bounds. The NFL has resisted this change at every turn, however, for two reasons.
First, some "process" plays that are currently ruled incomplete would transform to a catch and a fumble. Second, it would add a much greater degree of subjectivity for officials who would have to determine when a ball is securely in a receiver's hands. Do you want officials being left to define "secure" at live speed, and in cases when the ball subsequently gets loose?
When judging the outcomes and weighing the possibilities, the NFL has decided it will swallow a handful of incomplete rulings every season that defy the eye test -- in exchange for avoiding the subjectivity and additional fumbles."
OK, got it. The NFL is right after all, I hate to admit.

Here’s my recap and analysis of yesterday’s games
Patriots defeat Steelers 27-24. Huge win for the Pats, if they win out they get home field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs, and this game certainly lived up to the hype. Most of the discussion has centered on the overturned touchdown catch and if the refs got it right, like I said before I think they did, but there was much more to the game, mainly the terrific play of Brady and Gronk, they played at a god like level and brought the Pats back to win after the Steelers had dominated, vintage Pats win. Steelers secondary couldn’t stop Brady, Pats defense didn’t look great either, both teams will have work to do there before the playoffs. Also, the Steelers choked, simple as that, they couldn’t get a 1st Down up 24-19 with about 3:30 to go and then Big Ben made the terrible decision to force a pass in the EZ for a pick instead of throwing it away and kicking a FG. Most bizarre, most exciting game of the year.
Rams defeat Seahawks 42-7. Big win for the Rams demolishing the Seahawks in Seattle, they are firmly on top of the NFC West now and are heading to the playoffs, terrific job by Sean McVay and I’m impressed with this team, I think they will continue to get deeper and better over the next couple of years, watch out for them. Seahawks have quit I believe, absolute joke of a performance from them, they weren’t even trying on some plays, it was a disgrace. It will be interesting to see if the Seahawks defense becomes great again next year when they are healthy or if they are done because they are aging, and they needed a decent running game desperately.
Cowboys defeat Raiders 20-17. Another bizarre game, with a key first down being determined by a folded piece of paper and Carr fumbling for a touchback going for the TD. That was a reckless and dumb play, but it was an exciting game and I’ve been impressed by how the Cowboys have played the last 3 weeks, they turned it around after 3 awful games without Zeke and found a way to get decent offensive performance and they will get Zeke back next week, they are a long shot but they aren’t eliminated yet.
Jaguars defeat Texans 45-7. Jaguars clinch a playoff spot for the first time since 2007 with a dominating win, their defense is terrific and will make them difficult to play in the playoffs, and they’ve got a solid offense as long as Bortles is consistent. I think the Jags are the second most dangerous team in the AFC behind the Pats. Texans are just ready for next year when Watson returns, they will be a playoff threat.
Panthers defeat Packers 31-24. Rodgers returned but he clealry wasn’t himself and threw 3 picks, Packers should definitely shut him down now. Panthers made big plays and got the win, when they are hot they are as dangerous as anyone, they have a very solid defense, they force TO’s and Cam can make some explosive plays. They don’t have a lot of offensive weapons though and they aren’t consistent, so they will be interesting to watch in the playoffs.
Vikings defeat Bengals 34-7. Vikings clinch the NFC North with this blowout win, they are the most dangerous NFC team IMO. Their defense is excellent in all 3 areas and Keenum has done a brilliant job at QB and they have plenty of weapons around him. The Bengals should be happy Marvin Lewis is gone, he inspires no enthusiasm from anyone and they have been the same boring, mediocre team for years, time for a change, they’ve looked especially awful and uninterested the last 2 weeks.
49ers defeat Titans 25-23. Garappolo is now 3-0 as a starter with the Niners, he had another terrific performance and Robbie Gould hit 6 FG’s including the game winner, Niners are suddenly very competitive. Titans are falling, and they haven’t been that impressive all year, they are just average all around and I don’t trust Mariota at all, I think they will miss the playoffs given their weak performances recently and their difficult last 2 games.
Bills defeat Dolphins 24-16. Bills remain right in the AFC playoff race, playing a typical Bills game, solid defense and heavy use of LeSean McCoy, I think they have a good shot at a WC spot. Dolphins put on a lousy offensive showing again, Cutler is so drastically inconsistent, Dolphins have a decent amount of talent but need to fill up some holes on offense.
Saints defeat Jets 31-19. Nice win for the Saints, they have so many offensive weapons, they are difficult to stop and they are on top of the NFC South as of now. Jets put up a good effort again, they’ve been much better than anyone expected.
Eagles defeat Giants 34-29. Nice comeback win for the Eagles, Foles did a very good job and the Eagles remain atop the NFC. Giants put up a good effort, they just need to rebuild for next year.
Ravens defeat Browns 27-10. Ravens remain in an AFC WC slot, I like this team, good defense and balanced offense, Flacco is playing much better. Browns are just the Browns, a complete disaster, they all need to go, they are a disgrace.
Redskins defeat Cardinals 20-15. Neither team in playoff contention, but both teams have talent, they just need a couple of more pieces and they would be good teams IMO, they could both be playoff contenders next year depending on how their offseason goes.
Any thoughts?

Touchdown Falcons and we take a 7-0 lead! Nice passing there from Matt Ryan.

Falcons up 17-7 at halftime, playing fairly well. Matt Bryant nailed a 57 yard FG, he’s unreal.
Anyone watching this game?

I'm watching but multi-tasking, busy with some other things so I didn't post here. A bit concerned that we haven't been able to put them away yet.
At one point I had some pity of the hapless Bucs. They had this very long drive, marred by penalties and overturned calls, still persisted, produced several good plays both rushing and passing unlike what they did all year... just to fumble the ball at the 5-yard line! Pathetic!
But now I'm not liking their resilience.
I've not paying a lot of attention, like I said busy with other things. But 17-14 against the Bucs??

If Freeman had ran like that late in the 4th quarter in the Super Bowl Atlanta would’ve won.

Freeman with another great run, Falcons lead it 24-14. Freeman is having a terrific night, great to see
Anyone hear Matt Ryan scream “GET FUCKING SET” at Sanu?! ESPN’s mic’s picked it up clear as a bell, McDonough and Chucky’s reactions to it were funny as well.

That was way too close for comfort once again, but it was nice to get a win. If we win out we still win the division. Our offense is moving, but the defense has got to step up, absolutely no pressure and no intensity from them tonight.

Whew, that was really, really close... literally one foot close, as that FG attempt sailed wide right. But a win is a win; one more and we clinch the playoffs, two more and we win the division.

Big Ben made the terrible decision to force a pass in the EZ for a pick instead of throwing it away and kicking a FG. Listening to Ben, he was pissed and frustrated. He got his guys into a packed clock-it formation, then was told not to. So only 1 receiver could even get off the line and he went through with the play angrily. I don't think he fake spiked it as much as he showed that the spike was his call. Reminded me of when a pissed-off Csonka hung Pisarcik out to dry by brushing past him on "The Fumble" instead of taking the ball. It's either him or Haley leaving next year.

I'll have to watch the interview again. Maybe I'm wrong - only saw it once and was a little distracted. I've always been a Big Ben fan. Sounded to me as if he threw everyone under the bus to the media after the game. As opposed to stepping up and being a leader - whether it's your fault or not - and no I don't think it is one particular players 'fault' when a game is lost - it's a team game - sounded like he was placing blame in whoever was in his ear - i.e. the offensive coordinator Haley. When asked who's call it was - without hesitation - he immediately responded Haley. Be the bigger man - whether it's your fault or not - and stepping up to the plate and being a leader is the better approach in my eyes. Step up to the plate - pause - and state, 'I take responsibility for the loss. It was my mistake.' You look better in the long run. With the above Big Ben to me (again I've always been a fan) - appeared to be a rat b*tch without hesitation placing blame in another direction. But - maybe I didn't hear things correctly.

So now with Atlanta's win, the Green Bay Packers are officially eliminated from the playoffs, which puts an end to the mass hysteria the media engaged in for a week, once it was announced that Rodgers would be back. They seemed to think that the Packers would run the table and end up Super Bowl champions by the sheer magic of Rodgers being back after surgery and 8 weeks without playing a single game. That was stupid, and just risked the health of a star player on whose shoulders, literally, the franchise rests, and it was utterly futile since it was too much to ask from a player regardless of how good, to go to the home of another top team that is also fighting for a playoff spot, and win a game while only half-recovered from surgery. Result, three picks, loss. Predictable, actually, but the media wouldn't acknowledge it, because it sounded more fun to predict the triumphal return of Rodgers, as unlikely as the triumphal part was.

Now that GB is out of the playoffs, Rodgers should just chill and have some coffee on the bench and wait for next season. Pushing him in there now would be ill advised at best and retarded at worst strategy.
