Recently acquired a large box of used books and started to sort them out as to which seemed to be the most interesting into two piles. Began to notice that the book pile that was the largest had the best looking covers on them? How important is the cover of a book to you? And do you have any favorites? Do you think a great book cover adds to the reading experience? What is the most classic book cover of all times. I know that for some genres it is absolutely essential to have a great cover. I think Frank Frazetta has sold me more books for his cover art over the years then books reviews-LOL (this image evokes quite the atmosphere Savage-YES- very.

Mine is chosen more by title. Or at least my surprise books are. Those that are chosen outside of my usual author and type that is. I read some mysteries (John Sandford, J A Jance) fantasy and romance. I had bought a book at a used book store called When Rabbit Howls. It was about someone with DID (but back then it was called multiple personalities) and I loved it. I bought it because of the title. Pretty good book.

Best Tolkien cover art that I have seen, even feologlid might peak inside. 'Taken by the T-Rex' by Christie Sims link could that qualify as romance?

I do choose a book by it's cover. However, I will still read a book with a hideous cover if it sounds interesting.

Welcome empressofglasgow! I am very glad that you found your way here. Now those are some bedroom eyes! Awesome cover design. Haven't read the book but I am tempted. You could almost enter it through it's cover.

They get my attention like the Burroughs one in the OP but in the end if I don't like the look of the story or the way the book is written I won't buy it or read just because of that. But I really do the love the Pulp Fiction/Dime Store novel artwork and photography.

LOL -Ivy did I mean you? maybe. It's really lame when they take an image from the movie and put it on the book's cover- like 'I am legend' with Will Smith, totally ruins the imagining of the book. Then again the character is a total idiot in the book, like he couldn't go to the local sporting goods store and get a bow and a ton of arrows and just shoot the vampires on his front lawn, he had to whittle stakes all night long.... probably the best cover, some are really goofy with skull face ghouls and bats on the covers . When they are actually none of these things but are mutants, whose symptoms resemble vampirism and totally act like vampires but are not really- see the book is pretty dumb-Watch the movies instead. Huge improvement.

@eriknight lol yeah the avatar is deceptive. Gotta look at the gender symbol in the bottom right hand corner!
And yes, the woman on the cover is great.

LOL, Shigui, those are just some cool book covers that I have been browsing for in my sparetime.
Hey, just posted to your YAY! thread. That is another cool idea to keep going while talking about books. Started using Imgur, it is so much simpler for these boards.

You have good taste in book covers. I remember some of them when I was young. I haven't a clue how to use imgur. I have looked at it but it looks so confusing.

www.wikihow.com/Upload-Images-to-Imgurlink or if you find an image on the Internet that will let you copy it's link (just left click over the image and if it highlights 'Copy Link' then you can paste the address (www.etc) into the 'insert image' option. But of all the quick photo uploads on the Internet, Imgur is really fast for stuff on your computer-there are other sites like tinypic but I like Imgur's interface the best- so it is worth the time to figure it out. Hope this helps, if you figure it out- drop off a Book Cover that you like on this thread!

Two more Covers. The first is an example of classic cover art. Looking at the Oz covers, realized most of them are pretty terrible, this is the only one that appeals to the kid in me.

I love the Dragonrider series. When my son bought my Kindle for me a few years ago, he preloaded it with the first three books.

I also love the Dragonrider series and was very lucky, had an older sister who enjoyed reading fantasy as much as I did, still find that the female fantasy authors of the 70's are usually superb overall, you had to be good as the competition for publication was so intense, then in the 80's they just churned out endless runs of fantasy mills to exploit the craze. Ahh..Gormaghast/Titus Groan, another great series introduced by my Sis. More Classic cover Art to find and add here. That series has some of the best covers.
