This movie rocked. A little silly but still awesome. And relevant given recent current events too...

Because one it's a remake. Two liberals are basing it off the gun violence, but don't get that plPaul Kersey is supposed to be a hero with a gun.

I haven't seen Death Wish yet but these days it seems like a lot of the critics are turned off by ultra violence (for example, Netflix 's Punisher series which ended up being barely "fresh" on RT) glad you enjoyed the film. might have to check it out sometime soon

Paul Kersey is supposed to be a hero with a gun. As originally visioned, I'd say he's more anti-hero. In Brian Garfield's original novel (that the 1974 film was a loose adaptation of) and the novel sequel, Death Sentence he was denouncing vigilantism and exploring inner conflict through Kersey's journey.

The critics thought it “suffered from spectacularly bad timing”. Which is a really stupid reason to give a movie a low rating.

Audience scores don’t mean anything. Are you being facetious? Or is it because the voting can be manipulated? Rotten Tomatoes, the term that is, refers to the practice of throwing vegetables at a stage--usually done by the lowest economic level of the audience. And therefore the most numerous.

85% on RT Audience, higher than Black Panther Audience scores don’t mean anything. how so? even on IMDB it has a fairly hi score. Why would you say it means nothing?

Nora Primemovermithrax PejorativeYou guys actually trust audience scores? I’m surprised you quoted me the IMDB score which is the home to trolls and the birthplace of franchise wars. The audience score is hardly a reflection of a film’s quality and considering last year, and so far this year, is hardly a reflection of the audience. The fact that Death Wish, a genuinely terrible film, has such a high audience rating is proof of that.

The fact that Death Wish, a genuinely terrible film, has such a high audience rating is proof of that. sure, manipulation of scores is a big problem. and I was surprised to see the 81 or whatever it is on RT audience score and dont particularly trust it. But I dont just disregard those scores automatically. When there is a clear misbalance I usually check out a few other aggregators, ideally local national ones, or smaller sites that dont have such a huge following and compare. And you know what? Death wish still has around 6 with audience. I agree its a bad movie. But I can totally see how people enjoyed this. Think of the people that dont go to the movies twice a week, dont watch movie a day at home, or dont watch Oscar movies or care about awards. Think of people who are probably over 30 and either grew up liking Bruce or liking Steven Segal movies and never really focused on the quality of the movie within the craft of film making but simply on their own enjoyment and ability to have fun when watching it. I can totally see how this would work for them. It worked for me on some level too. I saw its (many) flaws, but I didn't mind them. It wasnt trying to be a good movie really . it wasn't trying to be a character study or something original. It was trying to be a fun light movie for a one time viewing on a lazy afternoon where you just want to relax a bit and are into revenge porn somewhat. Its similar to some of the bad movies Liam Neeson was in, from this genre. They were shitty movies but I still somewhat enjoyed them. Btw I would rate Death Wish higher than Commuter, which was insanely stupid. To the point of actively bothering me. Death Wish didnt actively bother me. Look at the OP - he loved it. I understand why. And bet there is many more like him.

Look at the OP - he loved it. I understand why. And bet there is many more like him. Will hopefully get a chance to see this this weekend. I won't be going in expecting a cinematic masterpiece, but I know what to expect and I'm sure it will deliver all this in spades and will be entertaining, flaws and all. I like Roth's films and this vehicle seems tailored made for Willis. What more could one want or expect, from a vigilante revenge thriller. thats pretty much how i see it too. no masterpiece, not even a good movie, but it has its thrills and appeal.

thats pretty much how i see it too. no masterpiece, not even a good movie, but it has its thrills and appeal. Just seen it and enjoyed every polished B grader moment of it. It's not as gritty as the original Bronson classics, and since there have been other cool vigilante themed films this millennial, both from 07'— Death Sentence, The Brave One—it wasn't even original thematically, but it was well presented, decently acted, generated enough tension to keep it suspenseful in the parts that mattered, and Roth is a visually strong director. It wasn't really pro or anti gun lobbying, and made a few jabs at some sort of social statement of gun crimes and laws, but that was beside the point. It was just a simply told movie, about a decent and respected intelligent man who was pushed into his dark side and found some sort of catharsis out of his disturbing actions. I would look forward to a follow up if they decide to do another one with Willis. If they do, I hope they make it meaner and sicker. but not include any menstruation, right? glad you enjoyed it. i had a very similar feeling like you describe. and i would too like to see a follow up where his character goes back to his old ways with a gun

Are you new to film watching? Why do you think RT means anything worth a damn? You shouldn't visit that garbage site.

This movie rocked. A little silly but still awesome. And relevant given recent current events too... Because of the lack of rape scenes. Imagine if the remake of I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE had no rape scenes.
