Please, they could've mentioned Pepper taking kickboxing at the start of the film and you'd still be complaining. Of course! Because that's still ridiculous! No more than her getting into an Iron Man suit would have been. The usual "Iron Man's gone SJW!" crap would start up. Pepper taking down the main bad guy was always going to be a hard sell.

The whole movie has this problem. Most of the plot unfolds while Tony is out in hick town, completely oblivious to everything that's happening.

I'd've been fine if they story had built Killian as a rival to Pepper somehow. Besides, nobody really cares about the people crying over "SJW's!!!! MEHHHH!"

The entire script was heavily flawed because Disney nixed Shane Black's original plan to have a female villain. It's one of the reasons why Killian was so paper thin and had so little screen time with Tony.

Iron Man 3 has a perfect screenplay and is probably a bit too smart for people who usually watch comic book movies. Nah, the screenplay is trash and the film is insipid dreck enjoyed only by morons. Innit?

I actually thought Iron Man was one of the weaker ones. He's a strong character and actor but maybe with the weakest trilogy within the franchise. Iron Man 2 was pretty bad but by that time Tony Stark was Iron Man. It lingering flaws were at least flaws I could be down with because I like watching Robert Downy Jr. be Iron Man and the first Iron Man had the least of that. Not to mention I didn't much buy Jeff Bridges as the villain. Mickey Rourke as Whiplash was a little better but I gather he did a lot of preparation for what was supposed to be a 1 dimensional villain role all along. Iron Man was probably the better movie but I didn't need to watch Stark become Iron Man so Iron Man 2 having Iron Man as an already existing character pushes my preference for that one.
Iron Man 3 was a mixed bag and I thought it was really solid until at least the second act in Tennessee. It's my favorite of the 3, but I also didn't really mind the Mandarin twist or the fact that Iron Man himself has PTSD and the project unrolled like a mental health and wellness movie. The final battle was a bit of a cinematography mess but it's not like I can do better, and I felt better when the kid was gone but without him Tony wouldn't have had a place to stay and admirer not to disappoint so it all worked out.
Frankly, I want to see the movie that is Spiderman 3, X3 and The Dark World combined. That could be a train wreck of awesome.
