It still blows my mind you didn't buy the Season 4 DVD set. I own all three seasons of Star Trek even though Season 3 was clearly weaker than the first two. I just waited for the price to come down before I bought it. Haha, glad I finally found this site. V 2.3. 😂. Now that YouTube has all of the episodes, I just watch on there instead of my DVDs. Glad you found your way back. I was afraid that a lot of users would be so discouraged by the initial take-down notice that they would never return and never discover that the interruption was short lived. I know what you mean about YouTube. I have almost all my audio CDs ripped to MP3s on my computer. And yet, when I want to hear a particular song, it's just more convenient to play it on YouTube.

"The Night of the Hangman" As I was watching, I wondered if we would see the four elements--and I was just wondering if the explosion and fire (yes, it did look dangerous) would count as gas and then we get that really nice colorful cloud of gas. I really liked this one. The assassination plot was very Lincoln-ish, and the use of early photography was cool too. And another carrier pigeon appearance. Henrietta. And two disguises! And two femme fatales.
It was weird about the "livery stable" remark. But also, what happened to Abigail? We did not see her leave--not in the version I watched. You see her arguing about the jewel-and then they grab her wrist and lower the curtain. And West mentions something about seeing her depart but how?
And then I watched the two Columbo episodes Suitable For Framing and An Exercise in Fatality back to back
PS could a fifth element be "trap?'
This one also had them both caught in a trap--at least twice--the fire and the contraption with the lamp. I liked how they had a routine for escaping when trapped together in chairs.
I think clever use of archaic technology is another ingredient I expect from the show--especially if it feels James Bondians. The pigeons are my favorite.

I liked how they had a routine for escaping when trapped together in chairs. A fifth element you say? Seriously, as I noted in my review of The Night of the Tottering Tontine: "The Night of the Tottering Tontine"At 2:42 we find the dead Dexter kneeling before he topples over. Over on that other site, someone suggested that this trope could be one of the elements of The Wild Wild West. I don't know about that, but this episode has two such instances. At 23:50 Applegate, the banker character, stands while dead for a few seconds, and then topples over. We should come up with a name for this trope. Dance of Death perhaps? During my most recent re-watch, I did note all "Dance of Death" instances for the record. And although I didn't write it, I did conclude that it doesn't happen often enough to qualify as an "element". There are many recurring aspects to this show, but the four I noted were the ones that seemed the most prominent to me. However, I think a stronger case for "trap as element" could be made than for most other repeating patterns. Feel free to document this and add your findings to The Wild Wild West > Episode Analysis > The Four Elements.

I prefer things on file. Ok I use Tv vault for most things. But the quality varies. Not sure where I got the first season of WWW but it was squeezed funny (Dr Loveless at work?) and I had to do things to get it to play the right ratio.

"The Night of Montezuma's Hordes" It had an interesting aspect to it in that they kept revealing characters in a certain abrupt way. First Ray Walston appears--and then Jack Elam suddenly appears. And then later the woman behind the mask. But they also did something of a red herring I suspect--you seem Jim approaching the saloon and a blind man is there--who I suspect you were amde to assume was Artie--but then you see him as the Swedish saloon owner. And then after they have trouble finding a guide, suddenly you see him as the grizzled prospector: "It's a guide yer lookin' fer?" I did laugh out loud a couple of times at his lines. Also--he says "no one has ever survived Montezuma's Revenge" and you can Jim giving him a look.
I agree with vrkalak that it starts strong but then it kind of fizzles after they reach the destination. And it does have a lot of location shooting. It looked like the town was the exact same one where in the Hangman episode--you see the man running behind the balloon. Looked the same to me.

Thanks for providing your comments. I enjoy reading them even though I finished rewatching the series and writing my reviews more than two years ago. How time flies!

I was listening to a podcast on James Bond and someone said "it was jarring to see Connery in a movie with Robert Conrad." I am now curious to see that movie now (Wrong Is Right).

Interesting bit of trivia I heard on a podcast--they said the film Wild Wild Planet used that name to cash in on the popularity of the series.

"The Night of the Circus of Death"Like some earlier episodes this season, the title alone was not enough for me to remember the contents of this show. In fact my first thought was, didn't we already have this episode, back in Season 1? Indeed, there are a few similarities with " The Night of Sudden Death" (Season 1, Episode 4). Both episodes center around counterfeiting, both have a circus setting, and both feature a beautiful female lion tamer played by a babe who also appeared on Star Trek. Some thoughts: - Judi Sherven plays "Priscilla Goodbody", a character with a very Bondian name. The actress will be back playing a different character next season.
- Although a circus features in the plot, the main site of villainy in the episode is Moore's Emporium. I suppose "The Night of the Emporium of Death" doesn't have the same ring to it.
- Speaking of Moore's Emporium, I wonder if it's a coincidence that the director of this episode is Irving J. Moore.
- Mary Lennox is played by Joan Huntington, returning for her third and final appearance in the series.
- Erika the lion tamer is played by Arlene Martel. As I noted earlier, "The Night of Sudden Death" also had a female lion tamer, played by Antoinette Bower.
And another appearance by Arabella, the carrier pigeon. I did get deja vu about the circus but I thought it was interesting how Artie's disguise backfired on him--that was a long scene with him interrogated about the money.
It looked like Robert Conrad was in there with the lion.

Watching S2 episode of TNOT Tottering Tontine on METV. One of my top ten favorites. Your impressive protector has just returned from Applegate’s vintage tomb.

For the record, you've previously posted your Top Ten list. Puppeteer Murderous Spring Howling Light Feathered Fury Tottering Tontine Lord of Limbo Man-Eating House Jack O'Diamonds Underground Terror Fugitives I don't think I've ever posted mine. I'll take a spin through my reviews and see if I can come up with one.
