Keep in mind that I have no religion.. but if we were to assume that God / Satan exists, how do we really know who's the good guy and who's the bad guy? Lets see..
From what we know the Bible is allegedly the word of God. He's pretty much telling the story. We also know that within the text there's a lot of violence (especially in the old testament). Much of it is either committed by God himself or done in his name and/or on his command. There are many examples of God's wrath in both the old and new testament, which includes drowning people, burning them to death, killing children, feeding "sinners" to lions, sending down illnesses and plagues, ordering rapes, etc.
On the opposite side of the spectrum however, we know very little about Satan. About the only thing we really know is that that A) he was a fallen angel, and B) he's evil. I think if you were to look through the entire bible, you would find very few instances where satan himself actually harms anyone. If anything, I'd say he seems to encourage free will and critical thinking (that's good, right?).
So if we take the Bible for what it claims to be, which is the word of God, isn't it all just a bit one sided? Isn't it like taking a statement from one individual but not the other? If any of it's true, why are we to believe God is honest?
How do we really know that Satan is the bad guy? Maybe it's God who's the asshole and Satan is the hero fighting for individuality and free thought?
Ehh?1?!11

Yea, that's what I got from it too. God said "Do this." Satan asked why, and then was sent away.

from a different perspective, imho, i think the bible is just a book of stories/archetypes for lack of a better word, though revised throughout history again & again. from a mesopotomian perspective god & the devil would be reversed, with Taimat, the leviathan/serpent who died so the world could be made from his body, sound familiar?

Could Satan actually be the good guy?
No, he just talks a lot about doing good for people and convinces weaklings that he's actually the good guy. Satan is the original "progressive."

Tiamat (the "i" goes before the "a") was a goddess, so the pronoun should be her, not his, yes?

Tiamat (the "i" goes before the "a") was a goddess, so the pronoun should be her, not his, yes? Are you assuming Tiamat's gender? Tiamat is traditionally depicted as female. If my assumption is incorrect, please remember that it is based on ancient depictions.

I'm an atheist, however, I often think about this too. As mentioned by the OP the bible is more than likely biased in God's favour. In addition, if God is all knowing he would have known what would happen with Lucifer so perhaps he's simply playing the role he was always destined to by God.
From what I know of the bible, admittedly it's not a great deal, Satan being the "bad guy" as he's portrayed doesn't make sense to me. For example, if he is the bad guy why does he punish bad people? Surely they would be rewarded for following their darker impulses and Hell would be a sinner's twisted version of Heaven where they could forever live-out their most depraved fantasies and desires.
With what I know Satan represents freewill and indulging one's more nefarious compulsions. However, as I've said I'm not well-versed in the bible and maybe someone that knows it's better could educate me on it.

This kind of essay question is always asked by people who haven;t read the Bible. It's based on wrong assumptions that could easily be correct by reading every once in a while.
To answer: No, Satan is not the good guy.
However, good guy/bad guy is all relative.
To an orc, men are the bad guy, so I guess from a different wicked perspective, Satan is a totally cool guy.

That is one hell of a rap sheet in that link...
Why would anyone worship such a sadistic god?
Answers from apologists for those evil deeds welcome?

I was raised in a fairly Christian houshold and have read the Bible including the Old Testament. I wouldn't be making this topic if I hadn't.
It's not an assumption it's an opinion based on what I've read.

It's not an assumption it's an opinion based on what I've read. Reading the OT is nothing special.
Understanding it is the thing people have a tough time doing which is why they use a link of disjointed verses designed only to prove their point without having to...wait for it...read the Bible which goes back to what I said in the first place. Congratulations on your read through though.

Speaking of this list, does anyone other than PD have copies of Steve Wells' books?
