Marlins void 2025 club option of Skip Schumacher. The guy gets to the playoffs last year and wins manager of the year only to be ousted a year later. This team added nobody of note in the offseason and has their entire pitching staff hurt. New GM coming into this year apparently wants to hire their own manager. So it seems like Schumacher was screwed right away no matter how successful he was gonna be. The Marlins are a fucked up franchise as is but this was just dumb as hell. Bring him back to St. Louis.

Today is the 50th Anniversary of Hank Aaron hitting 715th HR and breaking Ruth's Record. I remember it, even though it was somewhat anticlimactic. It was just a matter of when.
Damned shame someone had to shit on his record. Better living though Chemistry

Well, the upside is we had zero expectations for the Sox this season, anyway.

Man, that's fucking brutal. Just yesterday, I was looking at his stats at marveling at how ineffective he had been. In a way, the money aside, him being out of the lineup means someone else can get a chance and that someone has a great chance of being more productive. Just being a mediocre player will be an improvement.

Mets showing a little more life of late, winning 4 of their last 6 after an 0-5 start. The offense isn't totally clicking, and the short starts are already killing the bullpen, but I like the scrappiness the past 2 days in Atlanta. Multiple comebacks in Monday's win, and yesterday they nearly pulled off a late-inning comeback against the vaunted Braves bullpen. They're no better than a .500 team, but I rally like seeing the scrappy play.

Yoan Moncada out 3-6 months with an abductor strain. Talk about a guy who just never quite put it all together, he was the top prospect in baseball when he was traded to the White Sox for Chris Sale, right? Or at least high atop the list. That sucks for the White Sox, as this has a double-whammy effect. First off, he has probably played his last game in Chicago, but also, if the White Sox don't have a great year, he would have been a great trade candidate if he had a decent first half. In the final year of his 5-year, $70m pact (he gets $24m this year I think), the Sox could have eaten some of that and gotten a leg up on whatever rebuild they need to embark upon. But now that he's likely going to be on the IL past the deadline, they're stuck with his contract and not having him on the team.

Moncada and pitcher Michael Kopech were two of the biggest Sox prospects the Sox had. Both had the "can't miss" label. Kopech, like Moncada, could never stay healthy. A lot of Sox fans were livid, thinking Kopech would be as good as the uniform shredding Sale. Moncada was a bit like Jeff Bagwell, a talent but without a position. He was 2b, still being held by Pedroia, and 3b, soon to be the domain of Rafael Devers. This trade was the point where the Sox quit depending on the farm, which had been brilliant, and chasing vets. It got them the 2018 WS but a lot of misfortune since

I feel like his bat was promising, yet he kinda seemed eye test positionless in the field. It's tough when a young prospect gets a bit comped for being in a high profile trade. Maybe if he really wants, can play in Japan or something if MLB isn't for him.

www.yahoo.com/news/heres-investigators-allege-ippei-mizuhara-210049419.htmlHere's how investigators allege Ippei Mizuhara stole $16 million from Shohei Ohtani - Mizuhara placed nearly 25 wagers per day and lost nearly $41 million The complaint says Mizuhara's phone contained hundreds of pages of text messages with a number associated with a specific bookmaker β known as Bookmaker 1. The messages appear to include negotiations as Mizuhara tried to pay off his gambling debts. βI have a problem lol,β read one message from Mizuhara on June 24, 2023. βCan I get one last last last bump? This one for real. . . . Last one for real.β Investigators also cite a spreadsheet provided by a source in Bookmaker 1βs organization that showed roughly 19,000 wagers between December 2021 and January 2024 for Mizuhara's account β nearly 25 bets per day on average. The wagers ranged from roughly $10 to $160,000 per bet, averaging around $12,800. Mizuhara's winning bets totaled over $142 million, but his losing bets were around $183 million β a net loss of nearly $41 million. Winnings were not paid to Ohtani's bank accounts, even though those accounts were used to help pay off the debts. That is a shitload of money being bet through a bookie. Bookmaker 1 must have loved that Mizuhara guy.

If your city is in a drought, invite the Mets to your town to play a game.
