Didn't the person who created Machete order originally cut out Episode 1? He sure did. I think it's essential, so in my modified order I've included it. But you're absolutely right. I agree that it is essential. Especially since it is the only film to include Qui-Gon and Darth Maul, who are two of my favorite characters.

I would argue that Qui-Gon in I and Luke in VI are the only characters who properly embody the Jedi ideals as I understand them. I like to think that's purposeful. ETA: and for clarification: to me, Luke only arrives there like two-thirds of the way through the movie. Choking out the Gammoreans and making death threats isn't the Jedi way.

I would say Obi-Wan is the best Jedi in the series, even though he wasn't as good at following the Ideals. He went through so much pain, but never broke in spite of it. He never even allowed himself to show anger towards his enemies.

He never even allowed himself to show anger towards his enemies. My thing with Obi Wan is that he (and Yoda) manipulated Luke quite a bit. I know it's apples to oranges, but compare that to how straight Qui-Gon is with Anakin in all of their interactions. I think the contrast is worth looking at, but that's not to say I think Obi Wan is some asshole. He has one of the (if not the single) hardest "journeys" of any character in the series, and his grace under pressure is commendable. I just think his dogmatism and loyalty to the Order were a liability that Palpatine exploited, and his treatment of Luke was questionable but -- to be clear -- not malicious. His softening/shading of the truth is kind of an inverse to the way the Sith use objective fact ("truth") as a means of cruelty and, ironically, subterfuge in the movies; such as: Dooku's revelation to Obi Wan in II, Vader's revelation in V, and (unless JJ caves to fan backlash and retcons it) Kylo in VIII, although he of course isn't a Sith. ETA: also everything Palpatine ever says and does in the prequels, pretty much.

I'm impressed by the motivation and follow through. I'm too salty to watch Solo or anything else going forward unless it's spoonfed to me. whiny whine whine.

OK, so I’ve been away for a while and will probably be away for another while after this, but… Thanks, everybody! What a whirl. “And you were there, and you were there, and you…” It’s been so much fun, and to all of you, from the very beginning, I thank you so much. (Thanks also for sticking with me, while I blathered on with random opinions.) After I had mixed feelings on the first one the first time, you all kept me going, and I realized that this was a such a good series that I’ve been missing out on all this time. I really can’t say thanks enough, everybody. Thanks! Been a blast for me too! Take a bow, mang. This has been cool. Let me ask you to speculate: do you think viewing the films in another order would've influenced your feelings about them individually and relative to one another? Such as: my modified Machete order: IV, V, I, II, III, VI Or: chronologically, in-universe: I, II, III, Solo, RO, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII Or do you think your general takeaway would be the same? One of my biggest criticisms of TPM is that it doesn't explain fucking anything despite Lucas saying (supposedly in earnest) that they're meant to be seen I-VI. Even the Jedi seem kind of terrifying and overpowered, I would think. Maybe not? Not sure. I definitely wouldn’t have left off The Phantom Menace, though I had mixed feelings about it; I caught a few minutes of it again on TV the other day while I was scrolling through the channels and still liked it, especially for Liam Neeson. I do understand the criticism, but it sets up Palpatine’s evil plan and shows the beginning of Anakin’s story, which I appreciate (if he hadn’t had this sort of life, he might have turned out differently, but he’s also sympathetic—though we know later he turns into an inhuman murder-machine. Dramatic-irony-wise, powerful stuff). I don’t think I’m a fan of the “machete order,” now that I’ve read the original article: I just think it’s not really fair to Luke’s story to interrupt it with his father’s. I like the way I watched it. Well, congrats, Nalkarj! You have now seen more Star Wars movies than me! Well, congrats, Nalkarj ! You have now seen more Star Wars movies than me! Me too! It’s OK, just somewhat bland and forgettable. But OK. I'm impressed by the motivation and follow through. I'm too salty to watch Solo or anything else going forward unless it's spoonfed to me. whiny whine whine. Thanks! I’d just spent my whole life not seeing these but knowing all the pop-culture references and finally said, “Heck, I’ve gotta see ’em.” And I’m very happy I finally did. Thanks again, folks. Can’t believe it’s all done!

Hey, everyone, if you’re all still there (sorry, TFA was on TV tonight, and I caught a few minutes, so it made me want to go back and look through this thread): is the TV show Tristan's Journal recommended the one on Netflix? The Clone Wars? What does everyone think of that? I got bored of Watchmen and am looking for something fun to watch.

My opinion is fact!
