Just shows you the state of society today as it becomes more corrupt lowtacks86 But anything tied to satan is not a legitimate religion and opposes Christianity which the USA is largely based around for a long time now. Christianity is proven good and everyone knows satan is bad so naturally society should reject anything tied to satan by default. basically... people are trying to exploit "religious freedom" to promote bad. Do you EVER get off imposing your views on others?

I dunno.. Just because you can be a dick sometimes... doesn't mean you have to be a dick all of the time. You want to show those religious people for having traditions.. There. You did it. Happy now?

You either allow religious advertising on government property or you don't. If you think it's okay to do so, then any and every religion should have an equal opportunity to display their adverts. So the christians bleating about this should shut the hell up. If you don't, then you should be against displaying christian adverts as much as satanic ones. To support the right of christians to show their ads and be against the satanists doing the same is simple hypocrisy. Me, I don't think any religious ads should be allowed on government property. There's plenty of private property for that already. I do like the message of this one though. It praises knowledge, which I am in favour of. Coming from England, I think you should know that Anglican Christianity is the State Religion of the country, don't you? Therefore, it should be perfectly obvious as to why in England (& other countries where Christianity is the official religion) would have religious advertising on government property. Now, in the USA, they have Separation from Church & State. In Canada, we have Freedom of Religion. However, the whole purpose of these, were to protect the religious from persecution. Not the banning of religion from the public square. And yes, other religious symbols & holidays ARE shown in the public square, including Government Property. For example, the Chanukah Menorah is given full display, as are other religious symbols & festivities. Regarding the message praising knowledge. Yes, we are all in favour of knowledge, & yes it is a very, VERY Good Gift. And you know WHO It is that Gives us that Gift? The Holy Spirit, Hence, God, Is the One (Isaiah chapter 11, verses 1 - 2).

Yes, I am aware of that. I'm talking about what I believe should be the case in a general sense, not what is true in one particular country. I think separation of church and state is a fine idea; I wish the UK would adopt it. Banning religion from government is how one protects the religious from persecution. And as I said, if one considers that to be reasonable then it follows that a satanic display is also reasonable. To allow one but not the other would be an example of that religious persecution thing you mentioned. No we aren't. Quite a few people favour ignorance. As with many things biblical, the god of the bible favours knowledge except for when he doesn't. Meanwhile out here in reality, Human knowledge is something Humans have acquired for themselves. And it was no gift - it was hard won over a long period.

And it was no gift - it was hard won over a long period. So, I guess you would like it for the UK to get itself a new national anthem, eh? If you think it is reasonable to put up a satanic religious display in public, alongside Christian & Jewish religious displays, do you also believe that it should be okay to up displays honouring Adolf Hitler, alongside Winston Churchill, or even Mahatma Gandhi? Why or why not? Education is valued in all societies & cultures. Some people just dispute what that education entails. I'm sorry, I do not understand what you just posted there. And all throughout their "long period of time," humans relied on God or gods to get them through the trials they endured, and to give them said knowledge to get them through them.

No. ...and neither do you, right? Well. Now you know. No, I don't because I am not swayed by the argumentum ad populum fallacy.

So, I guess you would like it for the UK to get itself a new national anthem, eh? Oh goodness yes. Our national anthem is bloody awful, the thing sounds like a funeral dirge. I always rather liked the French national anthem. It's so jolly and energetic. And it has that wonderful scene in Casablanca. And the one in Escape to Victory! The American one is nice, too. And the German one is so bombastic, I like that one. Hell, just about everyone's anthem is better than ours. No I don't, since those are national rather than religious figures. The government isn't required to treat different national heroes equally. It is, or should be, required to treat different religious beliefs held by its citizens equally. But not by all people. I'm sorry, but I don't see any way to simplify the statement. And there's no evidence at all that he or they ever did.

No, I don't because I am not swayed by the argumentum ad populum fallacy. No. Your only swayed by your head stuck up your butt. Was that comment really necessary? It is obvious that as an atheist I don't believe there is a God, and that people have spent millenia acquiring education. That you think God did it is just a small part of why I am absolutely certain that religion is bunkum, anti-intellectual and dangerous.

Yes, I realize that as an atheist, you do not believe in any God. Those of us that do, give credit to our education & learning to God. This whole argument came about, because of a photo on this thread, showing a satanist monument, basically crediting the Devil for our knowledge, which religious believers actually thank God or gods for. You may consider religion to be bunkum, anti-intellectual, and & dangerous, but, I do not. I believe that humanity ITSELF have the very potential to be anti-intellectual & dangerous, even when using religion, but, even if we never had it, we would still commit various atrocities, & possibly even more, than we already have.

They should have the same right/s as those with YOUR belief!

I'm sorry, but I don't see any way to simplify the statement. And there's no evidence at all that he or they ever did. I am sorry, but, regarding religious figures you're wrong. The Government & society are not required to treat ALL religious figures equally. Religious figures that are deemed to be evil, or at the very least symbolic of what we understand to be evil, should not be given the same equal footing as religious figures that are to be revered for their Goodness. For example, the Buddha, while not an Abrahamic figure, is known to be a highly altruistic figure, & is revered as such, by Buddhists. Therefore, if Buddhists want public displays of Buddha (or any other revered figure from the Buddhist pantheon) in public displays, the Government should allow it. The Devil does not fall into that category. Why? Because he is a figure of evil, & not just in Christianity, but, most religions believe that there are supernatural entities that are evil, & should be rejected. (I actually responded to your post earlier, tonight. But, for some reason, it didn't post.)

They should have the same right/s as those with YOUR belief! Taking into consideration your earlier comment about "anti-intellectual & dangerous," Goz, I am quite certain that you do have some concept of good & evil, don't you? Despite the fact that you are an atheist, you do realize that within religion, there are figures that are "all Good," or at least symbolize all that is good, & there are figures that "all Evil," or at least symbolize all that is evil. I'm about to post to you the very same question that I posted to Graham (& even earlier in this very thread): Should Governments pay the same kind of homage to Adolf Hitler, that they do to Winston Churchill? Why or why not?
