Archer will have to equal that in the next couple of days for England to draw the series.

This Root is clearly a tactical genius. Curran causing Smith some problem before lunch. Hmm. How can I follow this up? I know! I'll bowl the only two of my bowlers whose existence I'm aware of (apart from Stokes) Broad and Archer, neither of whom have looked like getting him out the whole series. And still don't. Give your team a chance Joe FFS.

When will batsmen learn that one wicket can bring 2 or 3. Marsh have fucked this innings up with a nothing shit shot. He was playing fine, and splat - like a car crash.

CURRAN will get SMITH and win this game for ENGLAND. You were close - it was Woakes. And for the first time whilst not concussed, Smith missed a straight one for 80. 8/187 now, and Australia is as good as gone in this match unless something utterly bizarre happens when England bat.

Australia bowled out for 225 - a deficit of 69. They probably have to roll England for under 250 to be any chance at all, under 150 to be on par.
Bar Smith, and to a small extent Labuschagne, Shit batting from Australia.

Shaping up to be a great Test Match now. In fact, and I know we are all purists of the red ball game here, it's been one hell of a series - mostly for the wrong reasons of course! Fragile batting on both sides or what?!!! I'll state it now, I don't care if Burns gets out cheap in the morning, he will do for me, got the big bollox and application for the job. A hundred in New Zealand will set him on his way for the next couple of years. What about the Umpiring again guys? FFS, it has stopped being a case of getting the odd one wrong, they once again are dropping absolute howlers

Curran bowled to Smith exactly the way I said other England bowlers should. Around the wicket stump to stump and guess what? It troubled him. And apparently Woakes can actually bowl. I knew that. You knew that. His captain didn't.
But yes, excellent series overall. Some baffling selections from England. That and Smith really have cost England the chance to regain the Ashes.
It's also been bizarre that, while Australia have looked a better team with ball in hand and more secure overall with the bat, if England win here they will have had the better of 3 of 5 tests and been in a winning position for most of the first test. Strange series indeed.

Then Burns gets out, 54 for 1
Rory Burns finishes with 390 runs at 39 in this series. The most runs by an England opener other than Alastair Cook since Andrew Strauss got 474 in the 2009 Ashes.
