A couple of bottles I've had over the last 10 days or so: 1) I've mentioned this one before (can't remember what I wrote): 2018 Coonawarra - The Second Fleet. £6.99 from Sainsbury. A red - (Cabernet, Merlot and Petit Verdot.) www.vivino.com/the-second-fleet-red-blend/w/6270579?year=2018Not bad - seemed to taste better on 2nd day. Not sure I'd bother with it again though. 2) A 2017 Malbec from Chile's Colchaglia Valley.Brand name Montes. www.vivino.com/montes-reserva-malbec/w/1165612?year=2017£8.99 from specialist wine seller on Easter Rd. It was OK. Again, I wasn't blown away. Too dear for what it was. I also bought a bottle of Maker's Mark Bourbon while I was in there. Haven't opened it yet. Had a bottle ages ago and remember liking it. Quite sweet.

God knows why I am wide awake at 3 in the morning 🤷♀️
Gotta do something, so I'm checking out some supermarket interwebs for some vegan friendly reds to try this week.
A few questions...
What are people's thoughts on wines called 'red wine', made from a mixture of grape varieties? I've avoided them so far, and stuck with single grape or two variety blends.
Why is this Chateauneuf du Pape wine twice the price of other reds? Why is it so special? Is it worth it?
Any variety recommendations?

I used to buy it. It's OK but not worth the price they're selling it for now. 3) Not varieties, but regions - have you tried a Valpolicella or a Rioja yet. Usually decent quality. Dao is another one.

I like Riojas, not tried anything from Valpolicella... will keep an eye out for it.

Right off down the estuary for a couple of hours with the dugs, and a bottle of 2018 Lime Tree Merlot for company...
"Hailing from sun-soaked South Eastern Australia, this Merlot is a fine example of great winemaking and a superb climate. Opening with sweet mulberry on the nose, this wine has instant appeal with flavours of ripe blackberry and plum, complemented by supple tannins"
We'll see 🐕🍷

Is it Because your wine-cellar is full and needs some drinking time spent in it , or your Hun neighbours are sharpening their knives?

Nothing too exciting. I won't be rushing to buy another bottle, but you could serve it at a dinner party or get together without offending anyones sensibilities. NB... It might not be at it's best drunk straight out the bottle on a cold day down the estuary... It might improve served at room temperature, and Merlot should apparently be decanted and allowed to breathe for two hours.

I've drunk 12 cans of Thatchers today... Somerset all the way 🍎 And don't question me... Alcohol is permitted for Catholics on fast days. I haven't eaten.
