While it must be nice to be a Boston fan the past 20 years, I believe that if your teams aren't the Yankees or some other 'dynasty' you appreciate winning a championship more. Of the 4 major sports, 3 of my teams have won titles in my lifetime. They are:
Philadelphia Flyers-1973-74/1974-75(been to the finals 6 times since and have lost all 6) Philadelphia Phillies-1980, 2008(lost World Series in 1983, 1993, 2009) Philadelphia 76ers-1967(I don't really count this as I was 2 when this happened), 1983(lost in the finals 4 other times) St. Louis/Phoenix/Arizona Cardinals-No titles(lost Super Bowl 43)
So, all of my teams have had their chances. This doesn't count the semi-finals losses. Of dynasty teams, the only fans of these teams I know of are bandwagon jumpers. I used to work with a guy that whoever won the Super Bowl, that was his team the following year. And he would talk trash like he was a fan forever. I do know of people who started rooting for a team because they were winning titles but at least stuck with them thereafter. The sad thing with me is that I have seen only 1 title as an adult and that was the 2008 Phillies. The Sixers won the title the day before my 18th birthday. There are minor league or rogue league teams I root for that have won titles like the Philadelphia Phantoms of the AHL or the Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League or even the Philadelphia Stars of the USFL but of the 4 major sports, I only have 5 titles to speak of. What about y'all?(Yes, soccer titles in Europe count)

Mets won in 1986. I was 7 and remember watching it with my dad.
Islanders won 80-83 which is technically during my lifetime but I obviously don't remember any of it.
Giants won 3 SBs in my lifetime, although I don't follow football anymore so not sure that counts?

In my lifetime:
Boston Celtics 4 titles: '81, '84, '86, '08 (Though I was born in 1977 and I didn't really become a basketball fan until 1990ish, so I can't say I enjoyed the '80s titles at all)
Boston Bruins 1 Title: 2011 (It was nice seeing Bourque lift the cup for the Avalanche in '01, they even had a celebration for him in Boston. But it's obviously a completely different feeling when your team wins)
Boston Red Sox 4 titles: 2004, 2007, 2013, 2018 (Baseball is my least favorite of the four major sports, but 04 was the most unbelievable sports journey as a fan)
New England Patriots 6 titles: 2001, 2003, 2004, 2014, 2016, 2018
At the collegiate level, UMass won the Div 1-AA (now called the FCS) Football championship in 1998.
I also lived in Colorado for a time and adopted the Broncos as my second favorite football team. Between them and the Patriots, there were some rough Super Bowl outcomes in there. It was nice to see Elway win back to back titles eventually, but still not quite the same as my home region winning.
And I won't even bother counting the championship appearances of my teams in my lifetime. I'd argue against diminishing appreciation as a fan. The more you win, the more you realize how incredible the achievement is. Anyone can win 1, somebody wins every year. To do it consistently is incredible. Higher expectations make you care about winning even more. (Look at me, I'm constantly bitching about the Pats who are currently 9-1 and the defending champs). But there is a different feeling to that first win. I remember being in shock for weeks after the Pats won their first. Boston sports teams had been mostly garbage since I became a serious fan in adolescence. It was truly amazing. As the titles roll in, you don't quite have that same raw emotion of unexpected joy because you've been there before, but it still feels good to see your favorite team's hard work pay off. You follow a team, you see how hard they work, and it's gratifying to see them rewarded. And in turn you feel like your faith was rewarded; that feeling never gets old, I promise you.

Growing up and living much of my life in NY, everyone (assuming they follow sports) is a Mets/Yankees, Islanders/Rangers or Knicks fan. No Indians fans, Lakers fans, Nordiques fans, etc. But I know a bunch of Eagles fans, Cowboys fans, Chargers fans, Steelers fans, Dolphins fans and so on.

Red Sox - 2004, 2007, 2013, 2018
Celtics - 1981, 1984, 1986, 2008, 2010
Bruins - 2011
Chargers - still waiting
SF Giants - 2010, 2012, 2014 (I moved to Bay Area in 1991 and the Giants are the one team I fell in love with)
I grew up in Rhode Island in the 70's and was never a Patriots fan. As a matter of fact, back then there just weren't that many Patriots fans quite honestly.

Hockey was my first love when it comes to sports. I watched football but never really rooted for any particular team except like most kids in my neighborhood who became Dolphins fans after going undefeated. But when I started getting into football about 1974-75, the Eagles were horrible so most kids were fans of teams like the Dolphins, Stealers, Colts, Cowboys, Redskins, Raiders, teams like that. Me, I'm not much to go with the crowd so my 10 year old self looked in the newspaper, saw the NFL standings, and saw "St. Louis" in first place(as kids are apt to do) and declared myself a Cardinals fan and have been so ever since even though they've pretty much been the laughing stock of the NFL for most of that time period. The main thing that kept me from ever being an Eagles fan is their fans. I can't stand the lot of them and I used to be a season ticket holder. I'll never understand beating someone up because they root for the team the Eagles were playing or any sports fight for that matter.

Especially where I'm from in Western Massachusetts there are a lot of Yankees and Giants fans. It's like there are generations of sports fans here that were fed up with their shitty home teams and gravitated toward the winning teams in NY. My buddy still has no excuse for being a Jets fan.

Liked the SF Giants, Joe Morgan era before Bonds, and in the 2010s (3 Titles). But was not a fan of the Niners, hated the Raiders, and the As were meh. Latched on to the Devils (3 Titles) when they arrived and hadn't stopped rooting for the NY Giants since the Parcells days (3 Titles). Never liked the Jets, Mets only in 1967, and the Yankees I hated then was just ok with in the Jeter era. Like em more now. Never liked the Knicks, liked the Nets in NJ (Petrovic).

First of all, the “beating up opposing fans” thing is exaggerated and not exclusive to Philly. And picking the Cardinals because the Eagles were horrible, did you pick them on literally the only day they were in first place? I’m sorry, but if you live in a Big 4 city, you root for all of that city’s teams. Especially a big city like Philly, New York, Boston, etc. Sorry, but as Mine Missanelli would say, this is a violation.

They won their division the year before, won the division that year, and finished 10-4 the following year. As for beating up fans, believe me, I've seen it first hand. I've been to more Eagles games than I care to count(my dad had season tickets from 1985-90) and seen the bad behavior up close(I was even at the 1989 snowball game vs. Dallas). It's not exaggerated at all. I've gone to games wearing all my Cardinal gear and have had beer thrown on me, some asshole tried to literally kill me by trying to trip me while going down the concrete stairs, and had a 10 year old kid tell me to go fuck myself(typical classy Eagle fan). I mean, Eagle fans are so bad they they put a fucking jail cell in Veterans Stadium with a fucking judge to boot. No other team in the history of sport has done that. Oh, and Missanelli is a wannabe gangster dope and I've told him so to his face. Oh, as for the aforementioned snowball game, a bunch of idiots wanted to beat me and my brother up because the drunken idiots couldn't see that the hats we were wearing that said DALLAS on them said SUCKS underneath of it. Believe me, Eagle fans reputation is well earned.

My sister's husband is the one maniac Pats fan in the family.
