We should all know this one... Ladri di biciclette , Bicycle Thieves (1948) Italy Dir. Vittorio De Sica. Considered an essential part of the canon of classic cinema, the outstanding neorealist drama has also been cited for being among the most influential films in cinema history...

Stone (1974) A low budget Australian outlaw biker film written, directed and produced by Sandy Harbutt. Police officer Stone goes undercover with the Gravediggers outlaw motorcycle gang, to find out who is murdering their members, one by one... Maybe it is time for a reappraisal of this local classic ? The first viewing some years back left me shaking my head in disbelief, embarrassed by the ineptitude of this OZ thriller …

Another shot from Lawrence of Arabia. This one on the Suez Canal. Supposedly, the man is David Lean.

Considered an essential part of the canon of classic cinema, the outstanding neorealist drama has also been cited for being among the most influential films in cinema history... The ONE classic which I caught late in life which REALLY lived up to its reputation. As for STONE, I saw it on a double feature with THE EXORCIST back in the 70s. Good idea for an exploitation movie, but pretty amateurish in execution - but then again, maybe that suited the subject matter?

Nominated for Best Animated Feature ... I confess . I bought this movie based on its reputation. I have watched it twice . I do NOT understand its appeal. Maybe it would help if one got the references mentioned in the IIMDb trivia page "A poster of Jacques Tati's Monsieur Hulot's Holiday (1953) hangs on the wall of the Triplets of Belleville's home. Also, when the Triplets watch TV, the live action movie on the TV screen is a scene from Tati's Jour de Fête (1949), in which Tati plays a cycling postman in rural France. Like this film, Tati's comedy films contained minimal dialogue, and were told largely through pantomime."
