I laughed my head off through Collateral, along with the audience. Found it over-the-top silly. Jamie Fox shined in his part, though. Though Anne Rice publicly apologized for her initially being upset with the casting of Cruise in Vampire, I thought he didn't live up to the part. I think John Malkovich could have killed it. I loved Tom as Lestat, and have never been able to picture anyone else in the role...until now. That's an intriguing choice! Jamie Fox really turned out to be a hell of an actor. I remember him from his In Living Color days. Everyone knew he could do comedy, and then he played he blew me away playing Ray Charles. "Ray" knocked my socks off. Loved it.

I skipped the Ranting parts by Cruise in Magnolia ... once you heard what he had to say the first time, the rest appeared to be just more of the same and F-bombs get boring really really fast ! A Few Good Men provided a great role for him and the lack of romance was certainly a plus, storywise. I did see A Few Good Men. . .but I couldn't handle the truth. I didn't think his role required a lot of range.

Rourke had more talent in his little finger than Cruise has in his whole ancestral line. It’s a shame that Rourke, like many such talented performers, came saddled with a host of self-destructive and self-sabotaging behavior. Like Brando but more so. Whereas Tom, also full of weird tendencies, had his mental issues channeled and forged by a cult. Agree with all.

I’ve seen him in too much off-screen stuff and he seems like such an overbearing salesman of a human being that I can’t unsee his try-hard nature when on screen.

He might have certain point about Tom Cruise playing the same character in every movie. He usually doesn't stray much from the all american hero but he has clearly shown that he's capable of doing more. That being said: Mickey Rourke wishes he could be as relevant as Tom Cruise is. Tom Cruise wishes he had Mickey Rourke's Oscar. Agree about Cruise not straying from the same part. He took a risk in Magnolia and I think he did well. Mickey Rourke wishes he was as relevant as 5% of Tom Cruise.
This is not even a contest. Mickey Rourke is a legendary loser.

Tom can do other things. You mentioned Magnolia and Born on the Fourth of July but you also have stuff like Collateral and Interview with the Vampire where he shows his range. But Rourke is not right in calling him irrelevant. Tom Cruise is 60 and he's probably the last movie star and he started his career in the 80's. Ok. Credibility = ZERO !!!
Congratulations sir!
Tom Cruise was absolutely BRUTAL in Collateral.

Clearly there are some Mickey Rourke fans iin here and it's obvious they live in an alternate reality.

It wasn't a classy thing to say regardless of how much better Rourke or anyone else may be as an actor than Tom Cruise. In what planet is Mickey Rourke a better actor than Tom Cruise...?
Mickey Rourke is a legendary loser. Nobody gives a damn about him. He's garbage.
He made what...? 3 or 4 good movies in his entire career?

On every single planet, including Pluto when it was still a planet.

C'mon, the script had some unintentionally funny moments because they were so unbelievable. During the last quarter of the movie, the audience was laughing. It was a Friday night, pretty full theater. I will say it's much more a comment on the script than Cruise.

I'm glad you enjoyed the film. In his early career, Rourke was phenomenal, became iconic in France. Yes, he hit rough times.

Diner and The Pope of Greenwich Village are favorites.

Even his best movie, The Wrrestler, is fairly boring.
