Can anyone join or do you have to be invited by a member ? Those polls were great fun … I didn't discover them until the final few but enjoyed them ! I think anyone can join. I take a quick look there about once a month. I prefer the set-up on here.

Madotsuki the dreamer. Sadly they won't let him post from federal prison. Remember that incorrigible scamp? Here's a reminder. Modotsuki the terrorist

OldAussie admin did a great job fixing it up here so it looks like the Olde Home and things work pretty much the same way. Those polls are tempting … that's for sure !

By the way, I mentioned this site to Addison many months ago and he said he had no interest in joining up. Neither is Clore. I ran it by him a long while back. There are people he doesn't like from the old boards here. Oh say hi to clore from me tele - imdb1 demise came at bad time personally so i wasn't very good at keeping in contact with people as I had hoped Anyone hear from TrevorAclea? (although if I'm honest there is a current poster here who reminds me of him...) I loved his reviews and his appreciation of British tat (Robin Askwith, The HUGGETT films, Valerie Leon, etc). LuciaHarper was a lovely lady too although she exited imdb1 some time before Feb 2017 - Anyone hear from her? MelVelvit from the Noir and Classic boards I enjoyed a lot. He stopped posting too - I fear he may have been unwell. Also Teresa from the Noir Board (actually in Basildon Essex I think). I did look at Addison's site - great - but as someone else said its not his reviews I miss the most about his absence - his imperious asides, his total intolerance of fools (of which imdb1 certainly had its share), and winding him up about Teresa Wright was the really fun stuff Oh yes and what about Oleg - he used to cheer me up no end. Rollo - a global authority on silent cinema - and as genial a poster as you could wish for - where is he now? And Strelnikoff - who disappeared in a flurry of threatened lawsuits (real or imagined ). He was fun if you could take being occasional collatoral damage in the furious rows he provoked. Where is he now? Spike, Kambei/Joe, Ishallwearpurple/Jane...so many names coming back to me. Thanks to snsurone for starting this thread - it has turned into a great resource for both reminiscing about the good old days...and tracking down other posters we have lost contact with

A number of posters who were on the classic board when I was a regular had already left or were a lot less prolific by the end. I myself had already gravitated to the sports board. A few already mentioned such as Addison De Witt, ishallwearpurple, sol, BigKingTut and clore. RobT-2 ali-112 Kambei Shimada (Joseph Gillis?) Johnny Guitar salmau Hal-9000 spinninginvertigo The guy from Minnesota who ran the what classics did you watch last week threads. The guy from Baltimore(?) who was a theatre director. The serious Asian guy from New York. The guy who was a librarian(?) who loved the show Firefly. Kam and Joseph were one and the same. A brilliant poster whose contributions are sorely missed. Irish I believe he was. As telegonus mentions lower down he was originally jvnjr before Kambei.

Yes zetes (how could I forget?), bkamberger and jiankevin/alsolikelife, thanks. And Antonius was a very likable poster and may have been a librarian but not who I meant. I remember now who I was thinking of: DFC-2.

I believe that was the initials of his real name. Spinningvertigo began as a teenager. He must be well into his thirties now! Such a smart kid; and he knew the classics, mastered the details; the studio system, directors, producers; everything. Hal was there me, I believe. Salmau. That name's a blast from the past. Ali. Brit, I believe. London? I think so. Yes I believe ali was a Brit. Salmau was from my neck of the woods. And yes there were other regulars others have mentioned like Lucia Harper, TrevorClea and teresa. One regular who's here too is illtedesq(sp?).
Thought of a few others:
Marie D (she had stopped posting long before the end) The Spanish guy (sorry got no other clues) The guy who loved Japanese film, especially Ozu. The guy who started the IMDb top 1000 movies. Can't remember the details, something like every month we'd nominate films and then vote to add some to the top 1000 or vote to remove from the top 1000. Really nice guy, he stopped posting due to a family illness.
A number of these posters had splintered off to another private board a decade or so ago once trolls and less serious posters started showing up regularly on the Classic board.

Also: Dalbrech. Ring any bells? A very good, specialized poster went by variations on the name Deluge Way back, a woman with a lot of issues whose early postings felt like earthquakes: Sprockets Also, long gone: Writer_Woman
A big oops! on my part here: the guy who loved Japanese film's name was Kerpan.

Ha I remembered Kerpan before I read your post. Dalbrech rings bells but must have been a later addition to the classic board after I moved to the sports board. (or is he the one that was the Spanish guy I can't think of?) Sprockets was active early on but wasn't an active poster, if she posted at all, the last few years. Addison was one of the few she seemed to get along with when she did show up.
Who was the poster who would emphasize certain words he would write by bolding, italicising, and using different colours? (maybe even different fonts if possible). I liked that. He was active in the early years.
Oh and howard.schuman(sp?) always had well-written reviews.

She did not die … she's alive and apparently happily discussing her much beloved radio mystery plays at another location. imdb2.freeforums.net/post/2100635Her death was reported by someone who had not read the thread and was mixed up as to who was who.

When I started this thread, I was feeling kinda "homesick" for the old format and the online friends I had there. In the year since, I've made new friends and have gotten pretty used to the new format, although I still believe that it's inferior to the old one. I'm very pleased that this thread has received so many replies.

Funny about that. There was someone with a flamboyant, rather literary style of posting, and I can't remember his name (I'm assuming it's a guy). We may already have mentioned his name.
