MrsElleryQueen I believe. I think someone up thread said she's died. No, another post says she's still alive. When I started this thread, I was feeling kinda "homesick" for the old format and the online friends I had there. In the year since, I've made new friends and have gotten pretty used to the new format, although I still believe that it's inferior to the old one. I'm very pleased that this thread has received so many replies. I miss a lot of those people, even the ones who could on occasion be irritating, even exasperating, but not truly unpleasant. Sort of the "usual suspects" of the IMDB board, as in a good murder mystery (just sayin') .

I miss those people, too, tele. But, as IRL, online friendships come and go. That's why it's good to cultivate new ones.
BTW, the main reason I find the new format inferior is that on the old one, people can comment on both movies and TV. Now, they're two separate categories, and on each board, there are separate sub-categories. Pretty confusing. Just last week, my thread on "MOVIES ABOUT 9/11" was moved to another board by the administration. Things were much simpler on the old format.

It gets much less confusing when the various areas are explored. Asking questions in Tech Help or of fellow posters solves some of the puzzlement and provides "how to"s.
There were boards for TV and for individual Programs on the old IMDb just as there are here. Admin pretty much made a carbon copy of the old board which has been refined (adding some things and subtracting others) over time.
He also got rid of the genuine trolls who posted nothing but call-outs and multiple porn-avatars … so that's certainly a plus for this board.
If some of the absentees knew that the coast was a lot clearer, they might come and at least visit here.

I agree that the old boards were better, Bat, however I don't blame anyone here for that being the case. That this is the IMDB v.2. Says it all. V.1 doesn't have message boards anymore. Everything was connected there. It was and still is a superb search engine. The other replacement sites, even the ones who, like this one, do a bang-up job of trying to recreate the mood and overall tone of the old place are at a disadvantage. They're too small, most of them have limited resources. There's no one to blame for this. For my part, I'm eternally grateful that so many "copycat" sites have popped up over the past year and a half.

telegonus IMDb is still my search engine of choice except that, for some unknown reason, they eliminated both the quotes and the character searches. Makes game playing a tad more difficult and on occasion nigh unto impossible. ::cough GarthGames cough :: The individual boards for each "everything" were nice but the ones I looked into were generally pretty in-active and I didn't post on them very often. Having looked at several alternate new boards, picked this one because it seemed most like "home".

You really should take something for that cough, Bat.

You really should take something for that cough, Bat. Good one, Matt. LOL BTW, an OT message I posted yesterday was moved to a board called "I Want to Know", which I couldn't find. However, the message is still on the Classic Films board, so maybe someone could answer my question on this or another thread. Seems like IMDb is tightening the reins on open communication.

You really should take something for that cough, Bat. It's annoying when companies keep changing stuff via taking away options they used to have.

a board called "I Want to Know", which I couldn't find. Upper left click : IMDB v2.0 MOVIES / I Need to Know (forth on the list) The question has been answered there .. WITH illustrations of the possible book inquired about. Follow up questions await reply by the OP.

Here’s your question about the book, snsurone. Admin also posted a link to the board when he moved it; if you click on that link (in blue, like the link I just attached), you can go right to your question. We’ve found a promising contender. And here’s your “movies about 9/11” thread.

It's annoying when companies keep changing stuff via taking away options they used to have. Especially when they were among the most useful features of the site. Quotes and characters were researchable... now … zip ! ESPECIALLY characters and who played them !

Other People missed : The young girl from the UK who posted all sorts of interesting threads about Classic Movies. That fella whose favorite movie was The Sandpebbles. The lady whose husband had recently died and she came to the board mostly just for company. She liked to laugh at the silly OT jokes even when she didn't understand them. even on occasion .. the guy who posted in Latin and used obscure classical book reference as if they were expressions commonly used in conversation.. but he was pretty curmudgeonly most of the time

Does the URL ( imdb2.freeforums.net/thread/130537/ot-somebody-help-me) help?

There is one poster whom I definitely do NOT miss! Can't remember his handle, but whenever a celebrity passed away, he'd start a thread titled "Jack Nicholson Warned Him/Her". Some thought it was funny at first, but as time went on, those threads became more and more disgusting and disrespectful. I believe his last post was on the death of Elizabeth Taylor in 2011. I want to believe that IMDb blocked his posts as it would spammers.

I looked at it just now. I'm not feeling too well this evening, so I'll try to use it another time. But thank you for the link, Sal. You're one of the good guys! ;-) BTW, I was never aware that these "dragon" novels were written by women!

Sol was Sol who is active on another movie board. Spike - champion of westerns. Addison - was still on IMDB to the end though considerably less active toward the end. Still publishes his reviews here - thecinemascopecat.blogspot.com.au/TrevorAclea - excellent and knowledgeable poster. Trevor was the bomb. I miss him sadly, wish he'd turn up here sometime.
