A quick stop in, as I'm still not reading any updates to the board until after Ragnarok, but it'll be interesting to read these comments later.
Now that Thor is getting overwhelmingly great reviews, what does that mean for Justice League?
- I feel like Thor being released 2 weeks ahead of time with such positive buzz will significantly diminish JL's ability to generate as much of it's own buzz right during the time it needs to. And what I mean is a film need those 2 or 3 weeks just before it releases to be the leading conversation, but the conversation for most of that time is going to be about Thor. That has to have an impact. - Can JL come anywhere near the levels of positive comments for Thor and if it can't, doesn't that make it's appeal even more underwhelming by comparison? - Surely Ragnarok's buzz will have a positive benefit to Thor's box office, but will it affect JL's? Where do you think the two films end box office wise now, and if JL was the presumed overall winner, how small does that win have to be before it feels like a loss? If Thor comes within 50 mil, that's a win for Thor right? How about 100? 150, etc?
I'll be curious to see what everybody thinks when I get back.

Justice League will dominate. It doesn't have to be good to do so either. First onscreen teaming of these venerated heroes will be a must see for most.

I'll be curious to see what everybody thinks when I get back. If the tracking is correct and Ragnarok opens to around $100 million then it will be lucky to make much more than $800 million. Justice League is tracking around the $150 million mark for it's opening weekend so even if it is as bad as it looks it's unlikely to gross less than $900 million (which would still be pretty embarrassing BTW ).

Not to rain on anybody's parade here, but these "overwhelmingly great" reactions always come out before a big-budget movie.
It happened with Suicide Squad, BvS, and some of the Transformers movies as well.

DCU fanatics have learned the hard way how they're not to be implicitly trusted. Having said that, the embargo is being lifted very early which is always a positive sign.

It's not that these people reacting are shills, it's just that most people that attend a premiere are uber-fans of whatever movie they're attending. No matter what the quality of the movie, most of these people are going to like it.

It shouldn't affect it much at all.
Wonder Woman had great buzz and that was enormously successful but it didn't stop Spider-man Homecoming from doing well.
That said Spider-man did get very good reviews which Justice League likely won't get.

I hope the success of WW will elevate JL to a point where it can challenge that other superhero team up movie Joss Whedon directed in the WW box office. But that will be hard because of Thor Ragnarok and Star Wars The Last Jedi taking some legs away from it. The Avengers needed to deal with Snowwhite & The Huntsman and MIB3. Both not really great films.

Both not really great films. Justice League is the unwanted answer to the rhetorical question that is the Avengers. It comes as too little and too late creatively - especially with next-gen team up product like IW on the way. I will watch JL's perfectly sculpted video-game landscapes, perfunctory fan service and half hearted world building. And I will feel nothing. Hee hee hee...

Will it end with a dance-off? There's a good chance that it will.

Will it end with a dance-off? There's a good chance that it will. Guardians did, and it became one of the most successful films ever.

Having said that, the embargo is being lifted very early which is always a positive sign. It's not that these people reacting are shills, it's just that most people that attend a premiere are uber-fans of whatever movie they're attending. Not for Justice League. When they did the screening, most people didn't even know what movie they were going to see. All they knew was that WB was screening a soon-to-be-released movie. So the people that saw the early screening weren't uber-fans of Justice League. They were just randomly selected movie watchers.

So Disney/Marvel is lifting the review embargo only 5 days before the premiere? That doesn't sound very confident at all.
