I hear you, but I think that the story is nicely wrapped up at the end of Rises.
A compromise would have been to continue on with whatever Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character becomes at the end of Rises. What if he became a new Batman? That version wouldn't be Bruce Wayne, BUT would be linked closely enough to the Nolan version to carry over some good will from that series, and simultaneously new enough to move forward with. Maybe.
I like to think he becomes Nightwing and battles the rest of Batmans villains from then on. That's a possibility. But I think Nolan's vision for those movies didn't allow for things like Robin and Penguin and Poison Ivy. Too silly for that version. Giving his character the middle name of Robin is the closest that series gets to it.

I don't get it either. I do agree with Dazz about 'Batman Begins' being a godsend in comparison to the mess that was 'Batman and Robin' but they didn't feel like Batman movies at all to me and I personally disliked the whole 'lone vigilante' thing Nolan brought into it 'cause Batman works with the GCPD and the GCPD see him as a hero except for when they were corrupt like in 'Arkham Origins' but Batman and Gordon fixed that. I think the 'Arkham' games are the best adaption we have had of 'Batman' to date and I loved their versions of all the villains and the versions of Scarecrow and Bane (or Mini Bane since the guy wasn't even 6 foot) in the Nolan movies were awful in comparison to the Arkham versions. I mean the Scarecrow wasn't even scary and didn't keep the costume on. I want to see a scary demented version of the Scarecrow like this with a disfigured face that is hellbent on destroying the city. John Noble said it best when he said the Scarecrow was the most demented character he ever read. The Scarecrow in the Nolan wasn't demented enough and him always staying in costume made him even creepier. I like Batman and Robin-97'. I know it is silly and quite light and over the top, but I enjoyed it more than Batman Forever, which is my least favorite of the first 4 Batman films. I just find it very entertaining and Arnie cracks me up as Mr. Freeze. Now, I absolutely love Batman Returns-92' and not only is it my favorite of the 4, it is perhaps my favorite Tim Burton film and since I am not so much into superhero films, one of the best for me.
I hardly even know that much of the Nolan films, as I haven't watched them in their entirety. I have attempted and just can't stomach them. They annoy the heck out of me.
Well, quality aside I would rather watch Alicia Silverstone in a Batgirl costume and Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy any day over the Nolan movies.

With the exception of the Penguin in ‘Batman Returns’ which was nothing like the comic books version I think the Penguin is actually one of the most realistic villains in Batman’s rogue gallery and far more realistic than Joker. He is a fat short angry mob boss. There are fat short angry mob bosses like him in real life and heaps of them in countless Mafia type movies. How Nolan could not include him makes me think he never read any adaption of the character outside of ‘Batman Returns’ ‘cause the Arkham’ games was the perfect example of how Nolan could have used the Penguin in a grounded movie. The Mad Hatter could have easily been done too as a deranged pedophile and child killer who kidnaps young girls he thinks are Alice from 'Alice In Wonderland' and then rapes, tortures and murders them. Pedophiles are the lowest form of scum in the world and having one in the movie makes you get behind Batman and want to see them taken down.

@deblovesbeccy Nolan never said that the Penguin would not agree with his approach or that he found him silly. Of course this guy could be Nolan-ized concept-wise, like in other adaptions. Nolan just took a greater interest in other rogues, the fat short angry mob lowlifes thing is pretty overdone anyway in movies.

Well, I don't think they should show it 'cause that would be sick but they should have Batman and everybody else mention it and have him give creepy sick looks when he talks about Alice and children.

There were rumors that Penguin was considered as a villain and Phillip Seymour Hoffman considered for the role. But I don't know how true that was.

This is why I love Deb she doesn't care if it fits the formula she only cares if it would be awesome, this is also sort of sad that they will probably never do an R rated Batman film outside of the animated ones, though that would probably make for a awesome/twisted animated film that I would love to see, would really push the boundaries of Batman's moral code having to deal with something like that.
