There is a problem if its supposed to have high stakes like Ragnarok. But whatever, I've come to expect it now from Marvel, they have an established formula which works and this seems no different. I'll go to watch it even though I was hoping for a more serious direction. Only hope is they dont make Infinity War a cheesefest too. The stakes do look pretty high regardless of tone. Thor loses Mjolnir and that's the staple of the character of Thor, and Hela looks like one of the more threatening and most powerful Marvel villains. Well, can only really know once its been watched so well see.

Looks good so far. Easily the best Thor movie. Well that is hardly praise. I wonder if it can challenge something like Civil War or Winter Soldier. Nah I doubt it. From the sounds of it it doesn't seem it has enough meat to contest to more well-rounded movies of CW and WS, probably not even Avengers or Spiderman HC. However, it might just end up being the most enjoyable MCU movie.

I saw a few reviews that say it is the best MCU movie. I find that hard to believe, but that kind of praise cannot be ignored.

The more important number is the average score. If that is 7.5 or above Im happy. The opposite is true for me. I doubt I've ever had the same score for a movie as the "average score". That's a personal thing that can only be determined by me. But if 100 people watch a movie and 70 of them like it, I can reasonably assume that I have a 70% chance to like it too. How much I like it can only be determined by me watching it. So the RT score is useful to me, the average score is really not relevant. Maybe because it's funny. Nothing wrong with comedy as long as it's written and performed well, and Marvel Studios hires the best writers, directors, and actors to bring their characters to the big screen. You should watch movies like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. They crack jokes all the way through that thing. Even the final scene is just them making jokes. And you know what happens in that scene if you've seen it. This idea that you can't mix drama and comedy is really a myth. It's been done many times.

Ok, so it only has 15 reviews so far, but that's still a promising start. What do you think its final score will be? It's 32 reviews now, my bullish friend. And still at 100%. All this and no steaks. Hee hee hee...

The RT score only shows the percentage of positive reviews to the total. 6 out of 10 is still considered a fresh review. But if everybody gives a 6 the RT score is going to be 100%. Average score says much more. It says how positive the fresh really is. And what you say about scoring a film is true. But if 100 people score it an average of 7.5 out of 10 its likely my score will be about the same. 100% fresh will not mean its the best movie I will ever see. It can even mean its above average.

Reading some of the reviews and noticing the constant praise for it being "hilarious". Take this conclusion for example Funnier than GotG. Ffs. Why do these critics get so hard by Marvels lame comedy. You wouldn't think this is a film about destruction and death from reading these reviews. Its just pathetic and I could care less about the RT score because when it comes to Marvel films I've found the opposite is true. The higher rating they give it, the more likely it actually sucks. If Comic Book Movies takes themself seriously they usually turn into boring snorefests full of very thin pretentious philosophies. I dont think that is appealing at all but to each his own. Like D.C. Films?

Comedy is subjective. I could already tell it wouldn't be about death and destruction from the trailer. If it's the funniest then maybe the humor is actually better than GOTG instead of excessive. By the logic in your last line Thor: the Dark World was better than Iron Man.

The main story revolves around Antonio about to lose a pound of his flesh yet it has been labeled as a comedy.

Why do these critics get so hard by Marvels lame comedy. Because Marvel make films that are actually funny, it's that simple. It varies for me. I like the humor in Civil War, for example. But the humor in AoU is waaaaay too cutesy for my tastes. I think I'm going to like the humor in Thor Ragnorak, but many reviewers do note that there is almost nothing dramatic in the movie. And it is after all about the end of the freakin universe, so a bit of drama would be nice.

Winter Soldier is widely considered to be Marvel's best. And it has the least amount of gags, and takes itself more seriously than any other MCU film. Not a coincidence IMO.

Peter Debruge's review (Variety) was "fresh" until a couple minutes ago where it changed to rotten? Weird...
"While it's not saying much, "Thor: Ragnarok" is easily the best of the three Thor movies - or maybe I just think so because its screenwriters and I finally seem to agree on one thing: The Thor movies are preposterous."

Does a movie need heaps of gags to be considered "unpretentious"? No, just not full of itself and constantly yelling "LOOK AT THE SYMBOLISM! LOOK AT HOW DEEP THIS ALL LOOKS!" the way Nolan and the DCEU films are. WS featured whacked out stuff like the mind of a Swiss Scientist being saved on old 70s computers and flying aircraft carriers.

It's now down to 97% fresh with 1 rotten review. The weird thing is, that one rotten review was one of the first posted and it had originally been fresh. You can see that the review was posted at 9 am PST just as the embargo lifted, and it had a fresh score for pretty much half a day before it was changed to rotten.
Weird...
