This is the most awesome comic book movie news I have heard all year next to Batgirl, Razor and Fathom getting their own movie adaptations!! I have been a huge fan of Red Sonja for years and hated the cheesy 80s movie ‘cause it was nothing like the comic books and the director later admitted it was written as a parody and now they have a chance to fix things by making a REAL Red Sonja movie with a REAL baddass Red Sonja that kicks ass and fights monsters like the one we have recently seen in the pages of Dynamite Entertainment by the likes of Gail Simone and Amy Chu. Gail Simone has even offered her services to write the script and I think getting Gail would be the right way to go ‘cause not only was her series the biggest selling and most popular series of Red Sonja to date Gail is currently writing the script for the upcoming Red Sonja video game. The question is now if it will be based in the past or in modern day like the current series with Red Sonja on her motorbike. I would love to see both. Red Sonja Is Getting A New Movie www.gizmodo.com.au/2017/11/red-sonja-is-getting-a-new-movie/Fans have spoken and many of us female lead comic book fans have been waiting AGES to see our favourites get a chance on the big screen. Now if we can finally get big screen adaptions of Witchblade, Hack/Slash, Darkchylde, Vampirella, Birds of Prey, Supergirl (Linda Danvers), Shi, Saga, Wonderland (Zenescope), Aphrodite IX, The Magdalena, Tarot: Witch of the Black Rose, Sunstone, Monstress and Lady Death to go with it the female lead comic book movie genre would be awesome!!!

A lot of Red Sonja fans didn't like the motion comic format and were under the impression it was going to be an animated movie when it was first announced. I didn't like it with 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' Season 8 Motion Comic either and wish they had gone with proper animated movies.

I think the disappointing numbers from CONAN (the new one with JUSTICE LEAGUE's Aquaman/STARGATE:ATLANTIS's Ronan) helped kill the R.R./Rose McG version. I saw the newer CONAN movie, not bad, slightly less cheesy than the Governator's version and with some cool new characters.

Bryan Singer? That's going out the door. No. Bryan Singer isn't attached to this. That was the rumoured TV series which was never confirmed.

Rose Mcgowan was attached to play Red Sonja a few years ago and there is promotional art of it on the internet and it would have gone through but Rose had to give it up due to injury (as seen below) and when Robert Rodiguez broke up with her he left the project too. There were rumours the studio was going to make a movie with Amber Heard as Red Sonja who would have been a terrible choice in my opinion and then there was the rumoured Bryan Singer R Rated TV series but they were either false or it didn't go through and this is the first time a 'Red Sonja' movie has been officially confirmed to be in development and I believe it will go through thanks to the success of Wonder Woman. I am not sure what actress they will use this time. A lot of fans are saying Katheryn Winnick and Jessica Chastain are good choices but with Jessica set to play Jane in the upcoming 'Painkiller Jane' movie which she is also producing I don't think she will play both. Hopefully we will get some casting information soon but I am more interested in who is going to be writing the script 'cause if they get Gail Simone or Amy Chu (who has also thrown her name in) this movie could be one of the best female lead comic book movies ever made!! movieweb.com/rose-mcgowan-reveals-red-sonja-related-injuries/

No. Sadly what killed Rose's movie was her injury (as I pointed out on my post above ) but it is worth noting the difference between making a 'Red Sonja' movie now and back then is Red Sonja is now a completely separate character owned by Red Sonja LLC which is not owned by the estate of Robert E Howard or affiliated to Conan Properties International and Paradox Entertainment and has a higher estimated value than all three. From what I heard from an official at Dynamite Entertainment which is the current publisher of Red Sonja comic books after the success of the Gail Simone series there was a shake up of the rights and 'cause of that she is her own separate character and a ‘Conan the Barbarian’ movie can’t feature Red Sonja unless they get permission from ‘Red Sonja LLC’ and ‘Dynamite Entertainment’ to allow them to use the character and the same goes with Conan appearing in a 'Red Sonja' movie which is why you don't see Conan making any guest appearances in 'Red Sonja' comic books anymore so any future success of either movie will no longer affect the other.

Oh, well I just remembered reading that studios lost interest when CONAN and another swords & sorcery movie hadn't done great at theatres, scaring off the execs. I didn't know McG had ever gotten any serious injuries, although I confess I'm not well-versed on her. I think the new CONAN might be the only thing I've ever seen of hers.

Red Sonja is now a completely separate character owned by Red Sonja LLC which is not owned by the estate of Robert E Howard or affiliated to Conan Properties International and Paradox Entertainment and has a higher estimated value than all three. Conan should technically be in the public domain (I think he is in Australia). However the Marvel character is under copyright. I really doubt that in terms of fan popularity, Red Sonja surpasses Conan. The trouble is that the media companies hate the idea of a strong man heroic white male in the traditional sense (pre liberal era) so they loath to do a proper traditional movie version. Sonja fits the narrow SJW worldview of the media executives. But I wonder if they will go for a white actress or follow Wonder Woman's lead and use someone from another heritage. It was forbidden to make Valkyrie an aryan blonde-we'll see how far that goes down the media company chain.

I can name a handful of actresses who are 6ft or taller, most of them are blue-eyed and blonde, though with the success of WONDER WOMAN as well as THOR3, and if BLACK PANTHER does pretty good numbers, studios may figure out audiences are cool with a more diverse offering on the big screen.

What choice does the audience have? The media companies have money to do what they want--audiences either watch what they make or don't. There is no proof that the conglomerates care about audience tastes (as I keep saying--audiences did not ask for Kardashians). They claim Western audiences dont matter because they make their money in Asia. Will be interesting how they market Black Panther in China. If they do not bother, then it proves Disney and friends do not actually rely on China for money like they claim.

It says in the actual Red Sonja graphic novel by Dynamite Entertainment Red Sonja has over 100 million sales worldwide and is the most popular spinoff character in the history of comic books outselling the 'Conan the Barbarian' comic book series she spunoff from. She is also no longer a Marvel character either since Marvel made the mistake of losing what would have been their biggest selling female character (much higher sales than Carol Danvers) and Red Sonja is now recognised officially as a Dynamite Entertainment character along with other series such as Vampirella, Lady Rawhide, Black Sparrow and Masquerade who all appeared together in the 'Swords of Sorrow' series which was the biggest team up of female characters and female comic book writers in history.

Hate to burst your bubble, but the studio that is working on that has pretty bad portfolio with ‘The Legend of Hercules’ being one of the worst.

Bryan Singer? That's going out the door. Singer would have wanted an all young boy cast except for Sonja. He would have cast each boy personally.

Hate to burst your bubble, but the studio that is working on that has pretty bad portfolio with ‘The Legend of Hercules’ being one of the worst. That doesn't make any difference. There have been other studios that have made flop after flop and gone on to have hits. I am more interested in the writers and actors of this movie than the studio. With a writer like Gail Simone or Amy Chu who have both offered their services I believe this could easily be a hit.

This studio has been making one critical flop after another. It’s the same reason why I don’t have a lot of faith in ‘Hellboy’ reboot.

Only way that could be is if it has morphed into a Harlequin romance type phenomenon--which means its readership is different from traditional superhero comics with its boy adventure focus. And if Conan is not following the Howard model (and I suspect it isn't, it must be saddled with SJW ideology) then it is no surprise it would not be selling well. Conan saved Marvel in 1970 precisely because it was a return to a traditional western hero character even though it was greatly simplified from REH's version. The old hero formula remains attractive even if the studios don't want to profit from it.
