Labyrinth! Fantastic movie that introduced me to David Bowie (may he rest in peace). It was before my time, so it was a bit surprising that it didn't do so well when it was in theaters.

I grew up watching this movie in the 80's. It wasn't until later that I found out it was a flop. When it came out I was a bit too young, but I did see it at the cinema last year at a special screening after Bowie died And yeah, my Bowie obsession started with this film.

Labyrinth was one of those movies in the 80's that did poorly at the box office but got a second life and gained an audience on HBO and through video rentals. It was a common occurrence in those days.

Delicatessen does come to mind.
Though speaking of Bowie films, The Man Who Fell to Earth was way over my head when i saw it as a kid, though it left an impression to this day.

Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers. Its plot is as positive and affirmative as anything I've seen in the '80s.

I second Night Tide, The Monster Club, A Boy and His Dog and The Brother From Another Planet - all films I love.
Some others:
Dementia 13 (1963) Le Streghe (The Witches) (1967) El Topo (1970) Desperate Living (1977) Midnight Madness (1980) Smithereens (1982) The Boys Next Door (1985) Sonny Boy (1989)

After Hours from Scorsese is an over-looked little gem.

You should look into it.

Among my top faves:
Phantom of the Paradise (DePalma, 1974) Quatermass and the Pit (1967) Colossus: The Forbin Project (1970) Zardoz (John Boorman, 1974) The Loved One (Tony Richardson, 1965)
I don't know I'd classify all these as either overlooked or cult/B...though I suppose they are. They're all movies I've watched literally dozens of times each, loving them more every time. Interestingly, they're all from my late adolescence/early majority period. That must have something to do with it.

Ridley Scott's Legend. Few films so perfectly encapsulate the feel of the Grimm's Fairy Tales as that one did.

I never understood why carnival of souls was overlooked. It had creepy atmosphere, haunting imagery and great acting.the ending may not be everyone's cup of tea, but very underrated film.
