The movie is set to finish with over $600 million domestically, and $1.3 billion worldwide. Is that good or bad?

The first thing any good businessman should learn: it's not about how much money you made; it's about how much money you could have made that you didn't.
A normal person says, "DAYYUM! It's going to make about 1.3 billion dollars! Hooray!"
A bean counter scoffs, "It should have made at least 1.6 billion. Whose fault is it that we lost out on at least three hundred million dollars of profit because I'm going to fire him."
Bean counters are running the shows these days in pretty much every industry, so...

At best, TLJ would get another surge and just break 1.4 billion. But yeah, it's going finish in the 1.3 billion dollar range. Rogue One finished at 1.05 billion and it was an anthology movie. TFA made 2 billion as we all know. I think TLJ was probably a success in the range between 1.5 and 1.75 billion. It is losing steam now that the holiday season is over.
Yes it will be a success in profit margins. But I think some of the backlash from a sizable portion of the old fanbase is starting to take hold in box office numbers. As @winterssuicide implied, this movie could've and should've made 200 million to 500 million more at the box office had it been made differently. Or had Jar Jar Abrams not created so many disappointing dead-end mystery boxes in TFA in the first place.

A billion dollars is still a billion fucking dollars. That's my point. Three hundred million is still three hundred million. That kind of revenue loss will not be taken lightly. I'll be shocked if RJ actually makes a new ST trilogy.

The movie is set to finish with over $600 million domestically, and $1.3 billion worldwide. Is that good or bad? Bad, it opened well enough, but with less than 3x multiple of its opening weekend during Christmas. The end result is fine for this film, but i think it will bring catastrophic results to episode 9, even if its a great film.

Yes and no.
The gross percentage drop of around 30% more or less falls in line with the other trilogies. Both trilogies saw generation defining "event" movies (ANH, TPM) followed by much less hyped sequels (Empire, Clones) that dropped considerably but, absolutely speaking, were smash hits. TLJ is no different in this regard.
Personally, I think commercially speaking, everthing below USD 1B would be gradually a flop or underperforming (for a Saga movie). All gross between 1B to 1.5B would be (less and less) slightly disapointing. 1.5 to 2B would be a hit. All above that threshold a sensational commercial success.

Star Wars is finished. Time to let the franchise die.

Its very disappointing to Disney--TLJ will make more than $300 million dollars LESS domestically than TFA, and more than $700 million dollars LESS Worldwide than TFA--TLJ set the record for the biggest dropoff in sequel-to-sequel history

No it isn’t. Only people who didn’t like the movie will say otherwise.

I wouldn't really say so. It is a sizable drop off from The Force Awakens but everyone was expecting that to begin with. Attack of the Clones also saw a significant drop off and that had less room to drop than The Last Jedi. It is going to be probably in the Top 8 highest grossing movies ever. This is money that The Force Awakens could have made and it would have been considered very good. Its very disappointing to Disney--TLJ will make more than $300 million dollars LESS domestically than TFA, and more than $700 million dollars LESS Worldwide than TFA--TLJ set the record for the biggest dropoff in sequel-to-sequel history Nah that would be Alice in Wonderland.

Any movie that grosses over $1 billion cannot be a disappointment in my mind (although I might make an exception for Infinity War when that releases).
Solo, though, has the potential to be a real flop. People obviously aren't as interested in Star Wars anymore and its production has been riddled with conflict. We don't even have a trailer yet either.

The movie is set to finish with over $600 million domestically, and $1.3 billion worldwide. Is that good or bad? I see it as a sign of Disney damaging Star Wars' beloved brand with subpar films. I expected better than $1.3 billion.
