I don't remember any past lives, but in reading about history I always had a strange affinity for the Western Roman Empire in the 5th Century, and the Gothic people who settled there. Instead of learning something new it was like relearning things I used to know but forgot.

Well, I'm told that mathematics has verified the existence of dimensions above the 3rd, and I see no reason offhand to presume that consciousness can't survive in these dimensions. There is a process of shutting down which can be reversed up to a point after which you are actually dead and irreversible, hence brain dead, without intervention like life support, the body follows soon after. |

The brain functions your body and motor reflexes\neurons. Beyond all of this organic wonder, is another wonder and this is your conscious awareness. This is larger than the sum of your body parts. The brain, is not the mind and beyond the mind is your absolute truth. No. Not possible. I agree that you cannot lose the 'energy' that was in your body butt it breaks down into the component parts in the cosmos and is unlikely to be reformulated into another consciousness, directly as 'you'. This is something unknown and may not ever be known however it is not possible (at present and probably never) to have a human consciousness with out a human body and functioning brain. IMHO |

I clicked on the first article and was disappointed at the lack of science and blog type presentation, then the Guardian article similarly, then gave up. Neither supported your rebuttal of my claim. It is probably an emergent science with artificial intelligence looming as a physical possibility butt so far there is no evidence of the seat of consciousness being outside the brain. |

This is something unknown and may not ever be known however it is not possible (at present and probably never) to have a human consciousness with out a human body and functioning brain. IMHOI am not talking about human consciousness though. Humanity, or the physical aspect of what we see as human is just an illusion. You have your conscious awareness with or without a body and yes, it is a part of the cosmos\elements just as the subtle sense of being is also. There is no escaping that, as much as one may try to deny it. If you are not talking about human consciousness what are you talking about? In bold...no you don't. |
