Seriously marred by Ness's virtuousness and devotion to family. Connery and De Niro were quite good though. The homage to Battleship Potemkin came across as forced and pretentious. De Palma was trying to tell us how educated he is. 5/10 I think those qualities in Ness help us buy into his bone-deep commitment to eradicate Capone. Otherwise, why is he willing to take on this near impossible task? One can be dedicated to a good cause without being cloyingly saintly. Look at Fonda as Wyatt Earp in My Darling Clementine. Pursuit of justice intermingles with thirst for revenge. In fact, Jimmy Malone (Sean Connery) is as dedicated as Ness is and uses the Chicago Way. So does Ness - but only for a moment. So the film has him change completely but revert to (stereo)type in a moment. TV and Hollywood offer so many ends for Frank Nitti. But apparently he killed himself along a railroad track. A photo of his corpse is used in a montage in The Godfather.

There were crackers in many C Rations that were called "hardtack", perhaps only as a nod to the 19th-century staple. Here's a video with the most dreaded C Rat of the 20th century. The slang term for it was "Beans and MFers". Yes, "hardtack". Sorry. That's what happens when I type too fast. My bad. I have some in the dresser. I find these reviews so interesting. Pretty sad what we made our soldiers march on, given what they were expected to do. That meal looked rank AF, didn't it? Granted, the age didn't help, but pee-yoo! I disliked being within ten feet of anyone who had to eat one of those things! The salisbury steak, spaghetti and meatballs, and chicken C Rats were tolerable. It must seem odd today to see a small pack of cigarettes in each package! There are "vintage" C Rats on eBay, in case anyone is interested.

Elsewhere, Jardine recounts suggesting Sloop John B to Brian Wilson, but he didn't like it. A few days later, however, Brian called the guys into the studio where he'd pretty much laid out the arrangement. Every now and then Youtube has an audio of Brian working out the arrangement with the Wrecking Crew. It doesn't stay up long. Here's a link to some videos of Brian Wilson working with the Wrecking Crew. www.loudersound.com/features/how-brian-wilson-recorded-pet-sounds-and-reinvented-music

GI C Rations had chocolate disks that were so hard it was difficult to bite off a piece. (I presume this was so they wouldn't turn into puddles in tropical climes.) Most simply gnawed on them. They were nicknamed "John Wayne cookies" because only the Duke could bite into them. Ever try Hartack? I think of Hopper as a good guy - unpretentious, been through the ringer, good conversationalist. But that day he looked odd. Though just before he got on the escalator he was chatting amicably with someone. Hopper was clean-shaven and wearing a cowboy hat. I like this photo. Apparently, Hopper was doing a whisky ad with John Huston and Huston suggested they go visit Ford, who was rather ill at the time.

I suspect some people, for one reason or another, don't show up for their appointment.
Apparently, the vials hold slightly more than the number indicated.
I get the jab Friday.

I came across him at the Albuquerque airport in '73 or so. I was going up an escalator and he was coming down. He noticed I recognized him and became worried – paranoid. We passed each other without incident. He certainly shows up here and there: Giant, Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, Sayonara, True Grit, Cool Hand Luke.... I liked his performance in Apocalypse Now.

Lois Smith played Jack Nicholson's more musically disciplined sister, Partita, in Five Easy Pieces.

I re posted this on my Facebook page and no one thought it was funny. I guess you need to be a film person. I thought the name was deeply embedded into culture, along with so many phrases.

I wonder about Dick Davalos too. He certainly gave a fine performance . His last scene was hair raising .Who Could doubt he was going to his death. It was ultimately a thankless role, conceived as a cardboard perfect boy, and then set down in a film entirely crafted to show Dean. It is the most thankless role since Cagney’s brother in Public Enemy, and that guy was happy ro relinquish the part of Tom as too negative. Imagine not see8ng that Tom was the role and that Cagney was glowing hot and would walk off with the picture. Davalos probably did know that Dean was in his moment and Cal was The role. Who coukd 8magine he would not. Get another bite at the Apple. Good points. In this (inverted) retelling of the Biblical story, Cain gets more plaudits than Abel. The only role he had after that I can think of offhand was one of the inmates in Cool Hand Luke - paradoxical as so many of the others became well known. His granddaughter Alexa was one of the principals in The Man In The High Castle.

This is the only James Dean film I'd watch again.
I always wondered why Richard Davolos didn't become more prominent.
As I recall Tim Carey's voice is obviously dubbed over.

This is so weird, a couple days ago this question actually came to my mind and I came up with 3 answers. First and foremost, always, I Get Around, loved that song ever since I was little and had no idea what they were even saying. Also: California Dreaming I think I see John Phillips. Michelle Phillips, Roger McGuinn, and David Crosby.

Robert Shaw at the end of Pelham 1 2 3. But it was voluntary. Didn't watch the original only the remake which I think was probably better. Looks like there's also a made-for-TV version. FWIW the original got the best reviews. I saw it a few hours after my first experience on a NYC subway.

The two media reviews I've heard walk uneasily around saying it's not very good.

Nope. The critters in question live off minute bits of plant material, and are found in or near many ponds and other sources of fresh water. They are so hardy and adaptable that they have been found in the Antarctic, and can even survive in space! Oh, and they even belong to their own phylum.o Okay, I searched the photo and see what it is. Those on Twitter might like Animal Life.

Inspired by Deb's post, I think it's time to bring in some non-mammalian critters...anybody know what this little fella is? I first saw one at a Space Station museum, so if you think it looks like an E.T., that's very understandable. A mite?
