Sorry, Brando--Al was the winner of my little contest, so he gets dibs on starting the thread. (And since I originated the game, I get to make the rules. Them's the breaks...)

Would anyone here mind if I break off this thread--no disrespect intended to Miss O'Connor--and started a new one? I'm asking because I started this thread after watching her amusing turn in Witness for the Prosecution, and now, having just watched most of another classic film, a true blockbuster, an epic (and a great favorite around Easter), I would like to start a new one about another very fine actor who co-starred in it. Oddly enough, like Una O'Connor, he was born in Northern Ireland. One reason I would like to feature this particular individual was that he was snubbed for Best Supporting Actor at the next Academy Awards--although his most famous co-star won for Best Actor--and I feel like paying him tribute (albeit a much delayed one), to redress to some degree the cosmic balance. Whoever can guess which actor I'm talking about may have the honor, if you so desire, of starting a Classic Actors thread for him. (Just post your guess here first, please.) Okay, let's review what we already know: 1. Born in Northern Ireland 2. Co-starred in a hugely-successful epic highly popular around Easter 3. Although his most famous co-star in that epic won an Oscar for Best Actor, our man was not even nominated for Best Supporting Actor Now one more clue: he died well before turning fifty. Over to my fellow Classic Actors fans!

...and will it be markedly different than in years past, due to Coronavirus concerns? as an agnostic i dont observe or follow any religious rituals except xmas (because i want my gifts and my xmas meal). so i wasnt even aware its easter until this morning when i woke up to an email from my mom showing all the easter goods she baked. its looking Delicisous I must admit, but its on the wrong side of the ocean. so am gonna spens these days just like any other day. i already have a routine: 11 am - wake up and read mails and news and texts 1pm - get up from bed and self care 2 pm - prepare lunch and eat it, call parents 3pm - do light (unpaid) work at the computer 4pm - watch an episode or two of some show and walk on treadmill while doing it 6pm - prepare light snack and watch tv without treadmill 8pm - read new mails and news and respond 9pm - prepare another snack and shower and change 10pm - go to bed, watch an episode of a show 11 pm - fall asleep so... thats going to be easter too. But...where in that busy schedule do you work in a chat with your stuffed animals? They need love, too, especially if you have a bunny (who will likely feel frustrated and at loose ends, and maybe even depressed from not being able to do his yearly rounds... ).

Thanks guys, but I reckon there are more 73 year old men being worked to death by loving wives than will ever die from Covid 19. My husband (only a few months away from 70), does plenty of work on his own, without prodding from me. And when I tell him, "You didn't have to do that," he'll say, "I needed to. It was therapeutic." (And there's no denying that being stuck at home can make a person feel depressed, so if working helps ease that, who can argue with it?) Sometimes, all the stuff he does makes me feel guilty...but then again, he chose to do whatever that task was...I didn't have to push him into it. And of course, now and then, he inspires me to get off my well-padded duff and do something comparably useful--for which he's always appreciative. Yes, I do know how lucky I am!

The swastika was first used as a symbol of good fortune by several Eastern religions, before it was stolen and perverted by the Nazis. Check out this article from Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika

Yes. I am not the world's finest cook and it wouldn't be fair to expect my husband to do it all. Too bad my sister is too ill to prepare meals just now, because she's the best cook of the three of us, LOL. We try to work our restaurant visits (for take-out only; none of the local ones are open for on-site dining) into trips to the pharmacy or the grocery to cut down on the time we're actually out of our apartment complex.
We still manage to put together quite a few meals at home, though, and when we do eat restaurant food, we try to supplement it with fresh fruit and vegetables. In fact, as I type this, I'm snacking on red grapes--the seedless kind.

Nora, I hope your friends who tested positive are doing better. Also, it may cheer you up to know my household shelters a collection of stuffed animals. I check in with them every once in a while to see how they're making it through this trying time. I'm still here (as far as I can tell) but slowly but steadily going crazy with cabin fever. Yes, we're allowed to go grocery shopping, but that gets pretty old pretty fast. The not-so-good news is that my poor sister is still under the weather (and that reminds me of another factor rubbing salt in our wounds: it's been raining or overcast almost every day of the last couple of weeks--and we're in Southern California!), and while it's pretty unlikely that she has COVID (she tested negative for it about a month ago and hasn't been outside since, except to the doctor's office), she's been ill for about six weeks now. So even if we weren't under house arrest Stay-At-Home regs, along with all the fun or interesting places being shut down, we wouldn't be able to go much of anywhere. And I also worry about both of my sons, who are still living in NorCal. The older one has/had a supervisory job in a bookstore, the younger one in a top-of-the-line hotel...so you can imagine how much job security either of them has. The good news: those of us down here have plenty of food and water (and we even have a local source for paper towels and tp, as long as we buy either of them a roll or occasionally a package at a time). And of course, we have our computers, our TV, and our books--both print and electronic. And since all three of us (my husband, my sick sister, and I) have retired, we don't have to worry about losing our jobs. Consequently, someone might point out--justifiably--that I have little or nothing to complain about, but...we just moved down to this area in late January, and barely had the chance to do any of the things we planned to do, so...well, there it is. To anybody who's stuck with me up to now, thanks for letting me vent. That helps.

I have appreciated the refuge these boards provide...and not just since the COVID-19 pandemic swooped down on us. IMDB V. 2.0 has provided all of us with a wonderful sanctuary to "shelter in place"!

Nora-- Please pass that along to your friend (in a virtual way, of course). Oh, and as I suppose you can tell from the above, I'm still here. Although...to quote from Paul McCartney ca. late 1969 (re: The Is Paul Dead? Debate): "If I were dead, I'd be the last to know."

To hi224 and darkpast: We had a similar scare here very recently: my sister came down with flu, which soon morphed into pneumonia. Because we (she, my husband, and I) had visited Disneyland (only a couple of weeks before it closed ), she was given a test, which turned out negative, but for a while--! Anyway, both you guys, hang in there, you're among friends here at IMDB. If the RWNJs hadn't kind of spoiled the phrase "Thoughts and prayers", I'd be sending you some of those. Aw heck, I'm still sending good thoughts your way (but no prayers unless you want them).
