This is true only if you ignore the hundreds of movies released each year and only concentrate on the tiny percentage of movies you dislike. There were 738 movies tracked last year by Box Office Mojo. If you can't find more movies than you have time to watch each year then you aren't trying very hard. Okay I'll admit that post was overly dramatic. But still to blame "damaged cinema" on one studio is still silly, especially since all of these big major studios pump out all of the same shit over and over. I mean for Christ sake they made a new predator movie. Can't we just let some franchises stay dead? I tend to ignore the movies I'm not interested in so I don't mind what is in theaters. I will admit I went to see Jurassic World a few days ago despite tepid interest....got a free ticket and a friend wanted to go. (It was "fine") It's a little of the chicken and egg thing. Are the popular movies popular because the studios promote them? ...Or are they popular because the public demands them and the studios fill that demand? I tend to think it's the latter. Studios are not very creative (how ironic). They will hop on any bandwagon they see. Which makes me believe they are followers much of the time. That means they mostly give the public what they want rather than trying to shape public interest.

An old college buddy was saying the same thing. He said "I think we've said all we've needed to say with the Predator Franchise" My counter to it was it's Directed and Written by Shane Black. He was an actor and script doctor to the first movie. I kind of want to see what he will do with it. I've liked a lot of his work. Lethal Weapon, underated Last Boy Scout, The Long Kiss Goodnight, The Nice Guys, Ironman 3, and my favorite Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. As he was there at the inception of the series I'd really like to see his take. If he was that involved with the original, I wonder if he will return to the roots of Predator, where it was ultimately supposed to be a bit of a parody of action films with tons of big guns, over the top deaths and homoeroticism.

I would assume so. He wrote Lethal Weapon, The Last Boy Scout, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, things like that. And there is a little self awareness in those movies. It's not a parody by any means, but it knows it's pushing a movie trope of odd couples. And it manifests this knowledge by using the two odd couples as White and Crazy vs Black and Traditional. It's absurd that race should be part of the "odd couple" but it knows that. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is ultimately told breaking the 4th wall, as Robert Downey Jr character is recording his thoughts about the Hollywood Mystery Detective Noir set in modern day. It ends with him and Val Kilmer talking directly to the audience. Robert's character is a little bit of a unreliable narrator so some of the comedy comes from that. So I think there is a strong case that Shane Black's movie will be self aware at the least.

My favorite thing to do is to point out to crazy hyper-masculine action movie lovers that Predator was made to intentionally mock those movies, when they hold it up as almost the pinnacle of what they love. They generally don't take it well.

A while ago I was criticized for making a thread where I put forward a certain poster of the film sparking concerns of people in how Disney are pushing their PC agenda into Marvel movies. Having read some of the reviews for Antman 2 which released few hours ago, whilst eye rolling once again at the consensus of lighthearted, fun, comedic crap which is said on repeat for most MCU movies, one review caught my attention to how pathetic the criteria is for Disney who selectively choose their critics for the first batch of RT rating reviews. And the review is painful to read, not less because of the poor, elementary style but the stupid non claims it makes and panders the SJW crowd hard. www.themarysue.com/ant-man-and-the-wasp-review/Its clear from the very first paragraph she was only interested in liking this film because of the feminist angle that Wasp represents. Whilst also ignoring the likes of Black widow, gamora, Nebula, etc and also pretends as if Wonder Woman and other non-MCU depictions like Mistique or Catwoman never happened. Such plainly limited knowledge is now what constitutes a professional movie critic and people still wonder how there remains a large disconnect between audiences and critics in general. But this re-focuses the concerns that Disney is pushing hard with appealing to SJWs like this rather than the fan. With the recent announcement that Captain Marvel will be the new flagship character, there is a possibility a Star wars like chasm could emerge. Finally a little bonus quote from her review to excellently showcase the great craftsmanship required to be a certified rotten tomatoes critic these days, fully permitted by Disney. A sentence even a 6 year old can write after seeing an MCU flick, without its grammar or punctuation being questioned: Bored yet?
