I appreciate I'm coming to this party late and I haven't read the entire thread, but the island was off limits, it has a history of people going there and being killed and so this guy going there and thinking that he had the right to ignore all of this because he wanted to teach them about Christianity? I'm afraid I don't feel a huge amount of surprise or sympathy...
(my two cents)

North Sentinel Island: The Real Skull Island .. and yet a God-botherer thought that he could, in his misplaced arrogance and delusion that the people needed HIS GOD!

North Sentinel Island: The Real Skull Island .. and yet a God-botherer thought that he could, in his misplaced arrogance and delusion that the people needed HIS GOD! That YouTube video was put up almost 2 years ago (& probably made much earlier), way before that kid went to North Sentinel Island.

My point abut his arrogance and delusion, remains the same.

North Sentinel Island: The Real Skull Island .. and yet a God-botherer thought that he could, in his misplaced arrogance and delusion that the people needed HIS GOD! You are the first poster claiming he was arrogant who remotely qualified the assertion by saying "HIS GOD". So, the others have no leg to stand on. Your point deserves a response. It's only by premeditated hate and thus prejudice that a person can claim it is "HIS GOD". "HIS GOD" is everyone's god. Now, you obviously do mean that it is "HIS INTERPRETATION OF WHO GOD IS". Which is why you merit a response. The Christian God is defined in different ways, even by Christians. I realize I can't speak for this missionary, but as a rule, the missionary brings the total attributes of the love of Jesus to tribes, not the fire and sulfur. It is really not "HIS GOD" in the sense of pride and demand. It is "HIS GOD" in the sense of the god whom he humbles himself before, and for whom all people are equal and subject. The missionary wants to bring health to the tribe. The missionary looks to help purify the water, to bring medical care, because "HIS GOD" is a healer who helps the needy. As for the disease, surely that went through his mind. Can't be sure. The fact is that no matter how isolated the people on the island were, the elements, the tides drifting in stuff from outside, debris from outside, the birds, the insects, the fish, were not isolated. And since they were obviously in a totalitarian society where violent despots controlled the others, those despots were identical to the gang members that plague slums and hoods. Such totalitarians won't let the common people outside, but gang members and totalitarians insist on control. Three is no doubt that there are some on the island who ventured outside, in order to gain extra goods and knowledge to keep power over the common people. I'm not reading more into this than is already known. The missionary had been there before, and there were some who were friendly to him. The ones who weren't, it is now proven, were the violent "totalitarian" mobsters of the island. No, those who claim the islanders are happy are liars, and they know it. There is obviously a system by which the people are terrorized by the same "gang" totalitarians who killed the missionary. Disease will find its way there, if it hasn't already. The violent leader of the island obviously mean to keep medicine and other goods in their own hands. They are the same as the pharmaceutical corporations who gouge people in our world. They murdered the missionary. They murder everyone who comes in from outside. Case proven. He still made an unwise move, for sure. But he wasn't "arrogant". "HIS GOD" was not one that was of his own making.

He was arrogant because he was so certain that HIS God wanted HIM to preach all the Christian bullshit to the heathens for their own good( in his and his interpretation of God's will)!YOU just paternalitically re-iterated this in speaking FOR the tribespeople I cannot imagine anything more ARROGANT and self centred both on the part of the missionary spirit in general, and HIS assurance that HE was the CHOSEN one to do this work for HIS God. ALL that other guff about the tribe and its 'leaders' is pure defensive crapola on your part without a shred of evidence except projection and ignorance of the anthropology of stone age people. You are yet anther apologist for the missionary way of life which has led to more harm than good and is the ultimate in paternalism and arrogance of thinking your own viewpoint superior to others.

Some of the worst people I have ever known are missionaries. Mentally diseased most of them. Desperate about converting. Parasites. That’s weird Some of the best people I have ever met were missionaries. Anyone who is glad that someone dies solely for religious belief is a horrible person.

It is arrogance, isn't it? That the "Creator" of the entire universe has picked just one human to do His chosen work. I've spent a lot of my life around these types of folks. They would go into a country whose residents did not speak English, teach the residents rudimentary English, then fill their heads with concepts the residents didn't really understand. You may not be aware of the whole "speaking in tongues" concept. Initially, the original disciples would be given the ability to speak the language of the people they were preaching to, so the concepts could be understood by the listeners. Nowadays, it has devolved into people blathering nonsense in a religious frenzy. But if the original disciples were given this gift, to speak Spanish or Hindi or German to spread the gospel, why didn't god give that gift to this poor clueless schmuck? Maybe he trusted his god to have a universal translator and thought that the natives understood him. But if he had any kind of an infectious disease that could have been transmitted, the entire lot of them could have died. That is what wiped out a huge portion of Native Americans when the Europeans came knocking on their 'doors'. I have lived at my current residence for forty years, yet still, twice a year, the JWs show up at my door and leave a printed tract. They have given up on knocking on the door. But it is still trespassing on private property. I wonder how they would respond to a spear being thrown?

Otherwise if you have a door and a pathway and no gate then your property assumes that guest/visitors will arrive every so often. If you man up and tell a JW that you don’t want them on your property since it causes some weird violent reaction they will mark it.

If you man up and tell a JW that you don’t want them on your property since it causes some weird violent reaction they will mark it. I do have a sign saying so - NO TRESPASSING. I also have a gate, that was closed with a chain and latched, between my driveway and my front porch. My gate very clearly had livestock on the other side of it, and opening it put them at risk of getting loose. By crossing that line - a chained gate with a no trespassing sign on it - that was legally trespassing. Next time I will call the cops and bring charges against the church itself, and whoever's fingerprints are on the printed tract. I'm tired of tolerating stupidity, and criminal behavior, just because JWs think they have the right to ignore laws of trespassing and violate my freedom of religion (or lack thereof). I have told them repeatedly, over forty years, to leave me alone. How dense can they be?
