What about Superman III? Should I just skip it? Superman Returns is a better and more fitting sequel, but you should probably watch Superman III at some point if you’re interested. There are a couple of good things in it (mostly involving Christopher Reeve and Annette O’Toole), so it’s not a total loss. Superman IV is, on the other hand, a total loss, but even that is at least fun to laugh at. I haven’t seen Superman III since I was really young and can’t remember all that much about it, so I may want to watch it some time soon too.

it will be kind of like going from RotJ to TFA ( which i believe is exactly what salzmark did ) I actually watched ’em in release order (other than R1 and TLJ), so I went from RotJ to TPM, which was a small jump in its own right (the prequels have a different mood and feel from the originals). Superman Returns is a bit like TFA—the nostalgia, for example, and how it works as a half-remake—but I think it works better. The writing is particularly strong. And I think Spacey is actually just as good as Hackman—maybe even better, as his Luthor is (as I mentioned) even more menacing. The humor’s still there, but you truly believe this guy’s evil. Routh basically plays Christopher Reeve and does a great job with it. Kate Bosworth is clearly not Margot Kidder, though she’s supposed to be, and she’s too young for the part, but she’s got the spunk, charm, and beauty. Returns is one of those rare cases where I’m just incredulous that it flopped.

I don’t think I’ve seen Robin Tunney in anything, but I just looked her up and she certainly looks the part. I see she was in Hollywoodland, apropos of Superman—I still have to see that movie.

What about Superman III? Should I just skip it? That's a tough one to answer... There are some good things about the film, and some bad things about the film... The TWO worst things about the film are this: 1.) There is A LOT of comedy in Superman III, which you may not like... Many fans were turned off by the movie having so much... However, to be clear...Thankfully, the scenes with "Superman" in them, have almost no comedy in them. (At least Director Richard Lester kept Superman a heroic character.) The scenes with "Clark" are about the same, as in the other films... 2.) Actor Richard Pryor wanted to star in a Superman Movie, and so the Producers hired him for a major part in this movie. He plays "Gus Gorman". Sadly, about half of this movie features the "life" of Gus Gorman... Many fans were not happy with him having so much screen time... With that said, "Gus Gorman" is not really an Uninteresting character... He is worth watching, IF you keep in mind that you are not watching a movie called "Superman III"... When you watch the film, you should consider that this movie should have been called "Gus Gorman MEETS Superman". With that in mind, you MIGHT actually enjoy it... The movie DOES feature some great scenes in Smallville, and with Lana Lang, an interesting subplot with Superman encountering Synthetic (Tar) Kryptonite, & Great Special Effects that are on par with the first two films... It's not a total stinker!

Also the first choice for Perry was the guy that played HOUSE ( he was not available ) that also would have been a better match!

Watching Superman II right now—theatrical cut, I’m guessing, because they’re starting with the Eiffel Tower.
OK, so I did see the Donner version.
I’m not going to do a live-blog because I’ve already seen the movie (sorta), but, Lordy, so far it just reminds me of how much I’ve always loved Superman.
