Annnd that tells you all you need to know about the merit behind the nomination and the quality of the flick. He speaks the truth. The answer to his tweet is there was 1 other film besides BP, and that was Selma. Another non-white movie since im not allowed to say b**** anymore. I see a pattern emerging hmmm

So are you saying LOTR:Two Towers didn't deserve its Oscar? That was before 10 years ago. After 2008 and the dark knight they started adding more than 5 movies. And only Selma and now BP has got this unfortunate astrix next to their names forever

Nothing better than moving those goal posts whenever you want.

Its a good movie, but it does not deserve a best picture nomination.

It's an example of a film being nominated for Best Picture without getting noms in the other 'major' categories. It completely destroys your argument that Black Panther got a 'pity nomination' because it's a predominantly black production. What happened with Black Panther is not unprecedented.

Nothing better than moving those goal posts whenever you want. No moving goalposts. Before 2008 only 5 movies were chosen from each year as best pic nominees. Only a handful of the highest quality. You can surely do the maths that its harder to get picked for 5 slots rather than 10. Now with anywhere from 8 to 10 picks, the overall standard drops. More vanity nominations get selected. But atleast since the new changes, those other films have earned their spots through othet prestigious catategory noms. With BP being the 2nd movie to fail that criteria in a 10 year span, everyone can see why.

Nothing better than moving those goal posts whenever you want. Oh he didn't move them, he just set the parameters in a specific way to help his argument. I was suspicious of the "...in the last ten years," aspect of that statement, and skaathar called him out on it. Turns out you don't have to go back that far for another example of this occurring.

Evidently you didnt read why 10 year timescale matters. Because it doesn't matter. Black Panther didn't squeak by as the tenth film to be nominated. Up to ten films are eligible and only eight were nominated. Try again.

Clearly a pity nomination to appease the equidae community. Selma is the most recent example. Certainly less than ten years ago. That also happened to be nominated for and won Best Original Song

But... but... what about War Horse? Nomimated for best Art Direction. That’s not a major nomination. Everyone knows the major nominations are well known to be “The Big Five”. Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, and Screenplay.
