Though intended to be uplifting I'm sure, I found 'The Cider House Rules' to be of the bleakest movies I've ever watched.

you make me wanna see it If any of you do see it then just remember before you watch it that.....I did warn you! I am 20 minutes into it and I am hating it. I wish I had known it was a Gaspar Noe film. (I used to know this but I forgot it.) There are some film artists whose style just grates on my nerves. The psychedelic camerawork is too annoying.

Grave of the Fireflies is pretty depressing. I read the book in high school and I believe I saw the movie. Not sure though.

Oh I got another one. BLAST OF SILENCE 1961 I've never heard of that one. I'll have to look into it.

Most of my favorites have already been named.
Barfly (1987) Tous les matins du monde (All the Mornings of the World) (1991)
Barfly sounds interesting. Thank you.

I find I can disturbed by films, but they rarely depress me. Why get depressed by something that is only a reflection of life. Themes and content can disturb, but it also depends on how we have our emotions in check and are they coming from a rationale space, or a distorted one. Well for me, a lot of the time I want a sad, depressing movie because I'm in that state...I'm not looking for comments on that. I'm just stating why since your post talked about it in a sense.

Watch an hour of Fox News, then watch an hour of CNN. There's your depressing 2-hr movie.
I found Lonesome Dove pretty depressing. Great story, but it seems almost everyone dies. I think the story was to portray the old west like it probably really was...ile. not made up of unbreakable heroes.
I've seen Lonesome Dove before.

I was looking forward to seeing Pan's Labyrinth, but sadly I didn't like it that much. Maybe I should give it another shot.

American History X Precious Rabbit Hole City of Angels Bridge to Terabithia The Mist The English Patient Of Mice and Men Jude I have seen all the ones you mentioned accept for Precious and Jude. Jude sounds the most interesting. I'll take a look at that one. Thank you.

I know I've made a thread about this before, and I watched some of the movies mentioned in it, but sadly they weren't "depressing" enough. Anyone got any really good ones? Legends of the Fall Atonement Sophie's Choice Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father

Never saw it tho.
