Manchester by the Sea. Soooo dull and depressing I actually thought Casey's performance was dull, boring. There was never any emotion shown. It was just so bland and the same the entire time.

Yea, he really sets the mood for the entire film. I get it that hes depressed and all and that it takes some level of skill to pull off that type of subtle acting, but to win best actor and the movie to get nominated best pic? Not so sure.

I thought him even being nominated was ridiculous.

and as "Happiness" had been mentioned Welcome to the Dollhouse has been on my rent list for many years. I have over a hundred movies on it though. And the Broken Circle Breakdown looks interesting. Thank you.

I know I've made a thread about this before, and I watched some of the movies mentioned in it, but sadly they weren't "depressing" enough. Anyone got any really good ones? A Star is Born (2018) ends pretty depressingly. Also, a dud, but Sweet November (2001) ends that way too. Then there's one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen, The Remains of the Day (1993).

Legends of the Fall Atonement Sophie's Choice Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father I own Legends of the Fall and I've seen Atonement. Sophie's Choice, since Meryl Streep annoys me, probably won't be seen. That still leaves Dear Zachary...etc. Have you seen Mystic River? Also, as someone else mentioned, The Remains of the Day is a wonderful film, though sad. The Road? Again sad, but not.

I thought The Road would be one for me, but sadly it was not. Oh. And I saw The Remains of the Day. I believe because it was mentioned the last time I made a thread like this. It was OK, but not quite what I was hoping for.
