hugh jackman and Partick Stewart celebrated a world record of longest running people to appear in a movie series or something like that, though I expect tom cruise to surpass that with his M.I movies.
I started thinking beyond that. both guys have come a long way. Stewart and Jackman, it is almost a universal objective artistic fact that logan was the best way for them to go out.
when RDJ retires as iron man, his legacy seems kind of not on par with Jackman run as Wolverine. same goes for chris evans.
What has stopped RDJ for not reaching the height jackman reached with the wolverine character. this is a question for MCU fans.

its not a competition never can be seeing how wolverine never had to be dumbed down to what iron man became. and wolverine got better as a character, iron man peaked in his first movie. if only marvel and disney had allowed the original sequels of iron man 2 and iron man 3 things would be different.

I think Jackman does have the edge on RDJ for leaving behind a more iconic character with his Wolverine than RDJ has with Tony Stark, but not by much. A big reason for that is the movie Logan, its brings out the best in the actor and the character of Wolverine. You would think that RDJ needs a strongly written role in Endgame to make his finale (supposedly) cemented in glory. And i think it could very well happen, the small clip of him in the trailer deserted in space is promising. I hope they make him less like a magical metal transformer toy-like superhero as they did in IW and more humanized, grounded and reliant on his intelligence.

You could argue for either being more successful than the other, or at least sane people could. You obviously couldn't. How did Wolverine get better every movie? The character? Maybe, but he had some less than stellar movies like X3, X-Men Origins, and The Wolverine. No movie with RDJs Iron Man was as poor as those. I personally think both are very good in those roles.

Robert Downey Jr. says that he wants to stop being Iron Man before it gets "embarrassingI think RDJ is very aware how limited he has become in the role. the phoned in performances of iron man 3 and homecoming speaks volumes. For jackman , the sky was not the limit. The obvious just has to do with jackman had superior movies and a better content to work with, adding that with creative freedom to push the character to his limits. iron man , not so much. unlike bale, maguire and jackman who had tdk , spiderman 2 and logan, rdj peaked with the first movie and went down the hill. |

A question that presumes that RDJ is better than Jackman and something prevented him from being less. Well, I'd say that RDJ's onscreen charisma and superior acting talent "has stopped him for not reaching the height Jackman reached". RDJ is Ironman. Almost anyone could have played Wolverine. |

Tom Cruise already topped Jackman & Stewart for longevity in a series, he's been doing MI films prior to and after their X-Men runs began and ended anyway, are you talking about number of films? if so Jackman and Stewart don't have the same number to be counted together, so the very premise in that regard is faulty.
As for why wont RDJ reach the levels Jackman reached? well if you exclude logan he has, Logan isn't the norm it's the anomaly, it's like saying why cant The Meg or Jurassic World be as good as Jaws/JP those two films were the peak which arguably you cannot reach today, or repeat so easily after it happened once.
Logan just happned to come about in that perfect moment, it was the end of the trilogy, that last film Jackman was going to do, the last film Stewart was going to likely do, it was the end of a 18 year journey for the actors and fans of this iteration of these characters, it also belonged to a studio with no continuity to their cbm's so fuck the ramifications lets set this one movie fucking right, would Logan work as well if they had to align with continuity or worry about what came next? no but they just went fuck that this is the best film we can do.
Plus the benefit of knowing this wasn't a potential billion dollar movie they could go ok fuck it lets go cheap and go R we can still make a killing on this bitch.
The connected universe of the MCU has that hinderance, you need to allow for other things to exist in that world beyond that one story you are telling in that moment, hence why TDK films were separate from the rest of the DC universe, because that Batman doesn't work in a larger world, it's a trade off and a slight one at that.

I think endgame will be more story and character driven. Atleast i hope so. IW was cgi spectacle because of the surprise attack from Thanos and the plot basically was chase the MacGuffin infinity stones with lotta characters. Endgame is less heros and post war. With that i hope Russos focus a lot on story and personality of Stark, Banner, Thor and Cap (please dont give Carol danvers much screentime). Much like Logan had no Xmen characters and taking place in a desolate world allowing main character's to breathe. Russos still made the best MCU film lets not forget, hopefully they rekindle Winter Soldiers themes and motifs |

Not as many people care about Jackman as wolverine. His movies make small fractions of what Downey’s do. Yes box office doesn’t equal quality, but it does equal popularity.
Godfather is better than Star Wars, but people still prefer Star Wars.

I feel like this can't really be much of a debate until we see exactly how RDJ leaves the MCU. Hopefully not fighting an evil twin.
Then even after that we really don't know when his true last appearance will be. He might come back in the future for some big farewell film. We might get some Demon in a Bottle movie down the road for all we know.

How many Iron Man movies and appearances are TRULY great? With Wolverine I think its fair to say at least 4 of the movies are truly great and memorable (X-Men, X2, DOFP and Logan), whereas with RDJ really its just Iron Man (1), and maybe Civil War(?). People are on the fence about IM1 and IM2, and all his other appearances are neither her nor there really. Maybe that's the difference? It is for me.
Plus, Wolverine is just cooler character.

Seems odd that this would be posted on an MCU board but not even posted on the X-Men board when it's clearly about how much you love Hugh Jackman and Wolverine but despise RDJ and Tony Stark.
