You might have missed it, but the lengths were posted here a month or two ago. Next week's will be about the same, and the following 4 will be about 90 minutes each. The uncovered times were round 80mn windows likely longer than the actual episode lengths but the idiot in charge is already upgrading them to his 90mn fantasy. Yeah, like I said, about 90 minutes. Try harder. Shit's weak.

Great episode, probably my 2nd favourite premiere after Two Swords (I'd say in terms of premieres S4/S8/S2/S1/S7/S3/S6/S5). Can I say how freaking gorgeous the episode looks. They increased the budget again for the final season and it shows. At this point it basically looks like we're watching a big-budget movie, those dragons looked incredible. I really liked the character interactions in this episode. Especially the fact that everyone is pretty much anti-Daenerys. I was afraid they were gonna go all 'happy and let's fight the White Walkers together', when we all know that that is not how these characters work. They way the interactions were handled felt way more natural than a lot of previous interactions in seasons 5, 6, and 7. I'd even say that with the exception of The Winds of Winter, this is probably my favorite episode in terms of dialogue since maybe early season 5 or season 4. Can't wait for the next episode. Based on the promo there's a lot of stuff that's gonna happen. That's probably the only thing this episode has against it: not a whole lot happened. I mean, it's at about the same pace as the season premieres of season 2 or 4, but we're so close to the end that I expected it to speed up a bit. That's probably the only gripe I have with it and if it really starts going in the next episode I don't think I'll mind the grand scheme of the whole season. All in all, an 8/10 from me.

As much as I have criticised the writers for dumbing down, I never thought they were going to idealise the story. I predicted the antagonism between Sansa and Daenerys long before S7 aired and am pretty certain some if not all of the North will oppose the new imported ruler. I guess Lyanna Mormont will be involved in this. I also expect Jorah to betray Daenerys for the sake of his relatives.

Just the kind of reception I would expect:
That is the kind of reception I'd expect... from a drooling moron. I remember back in season 1 on the old IMDb GoT boards, some cretin was complaining that they didn't understand the story. When it was explained to them that all of their questions were answered in dialogue, the poster said "I don't pay attention to all the talking scenes." I mean come on. "Boooooooooring"? This is criticism?

This is criticism? Twitter is not the most appropriate format for complex reviews but since the above echoes the complaints I had myself about most of Season 6, I am inclined to take this lady's word. From what I read so far, it seems the current plot is anything but elaborate and the show relies mostly on dumb feeler gratification ("I've been waiting for them to see each other again for sooooo loooong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love this show!!!"), dragons and eunuch jokes.

I have to admit I chuckled at "stupid beasts". The episode implied that the dragons aren't doing so well in this environment, not eating much, not liking the North. I wonder if that'll have any ramifications for the coming battle? I'm sure they'll both die, but at whose hand?

I gave the episode a 7. I really want to watch again and I will before nest week. It was an average GOT premiere I guess. It was no better or worse than most, besides Two Swords, which is one of my favorites. I think that because it is the final season, I was expecting a little more. However, it is good that they spent an episode with all story and reunions. I feel that, hopefully, when the season ends, the episode will have been better because it was the calm before the storms.

We still have 378 minutes left, which (for comparison) is roughly the length of The Two Towers & The Return of the King combined.

It was a good episode, well done for a table setting episode that ranks probably the highest out of the recent premieres. But it’s still not good enough. Underwhelming and quite frankly boring opening for the closure of my favorite story of all time. 5 episodes left. It’s time to start getting shit done.
I think I just need to expect that this won’t be the cinematic gold of seasons 1-4.

I hate watching this show week to week. Most shows I wait until I have three or so recorded thus I don't have to watch them morsel by bit but can see a whole movie's length of show.
