My main problem with Jacksons Kong isn't the length it's the ott scenes such as the dinosaur stamepe and even worse the fight with the 3 V Rex's. he's been attacked by 3 lethal reptiles yet Fay Wray get's thrown around multiple times and Kong miraculously catches her every time. then she lands on one of the V Rex heads and doesn't fall off despite the creature moving around trying to bite etc. the whole scene was just ridiculous and cartoonish. same with the stampede where there's people running amongst all these giant creatures and they don't get crushed and even manage a few karate kicks at the dinosaurs. why Jackson thought all that was a good idea i don't know.

I loved those scenes myself. But don't you find the action just too far fetched and cartoonish?

No, not really. Not coming from a movie about a giant ape.

Does anyone have any ideas or theories about how they are going to do a better job of connecting the creatures in the Kong universe to those in the Godzilla universe? One of the reasons I always preferred Kong was because Godzilla was too invincible for my tastes. Drop nuclear bombs on him and nothing happens. The creatures on Skull Island can be hurt by fire, bombs, and even bullets if they are small enough.
Plus, I always thought Kong was a better character. Godzilla has no personality.
I’m not concerned about the size difference, because Kong will keep growing. By the time the two meet up there will have been 47 years passed. Even if Kong is not the same exact size as Godzilla, I think it will be close enough to where size won’t be the major issue between the two. Kong is also noticeably smarter (he made weapons and can connect with people) and has a clear speed and agility advantage.
Where the problem lies is durability. As I mentioned above, these are creatures that literally eat nuclear bombs. Kong is not fire proof. I don’t know how they are going to close that gap, but I hope it’s not something really tacky or cheesy like Kong becoming nuclear. That just deviates from the character’s origins too much.

I assume they'll change the Godzilla mythology. I think the giant lizard storyline in Skull Island is setting it up for Godzilla to be a variation from those lizards, like one that adapted to the water.

I agree with SinisterCreep. Those scenes were way too ott. That, along, with the excessive cute and cuddly factor, and the absurd emotional connection between Anne and the monster are the reasons that I think the original King Kong 33 is a superior movie.
I think King Kong 05 is a great movie but in comparison to the original it pales IMO.

This is a little far-fetched, but imagine how cool this would be: King Kong and Mothra team up to take down Godzilla. I still think that Kong would be annihilated if he took Godzilla head-on in a fight like the movie in 2020 is supposed to be like. Mothra could even weaken Godzilla, be killed by Kong, then lead to an actual Kong v Godzilla throwdown. Almost like Kong and Mothra are using each other until they don't need the other's abilities, then it's Kong v Godzilla v Mothra. That would be one hell of a showdown.

I saw K:SI this evening, and it was spectacular. The FX were top-notch, and never once "took me out of the film", unlike the last Kong flick (ugh, those brontosaurs were horrible). The story was exciting, and the after-credits zinger was great. Bring on the next one!

The civilian survivors are gathered around, looking at the evidence of their trip. They realize that there are more islands nearby, and more monsters as well. Specifically, they find evidence in some cave paintings by the natives. The drawings/paintings are easily recognizable....they are Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan and Ghidora.

It sounds like they are giving us a lot of potential world building. I'm in!

It was a good movie. Not better than Godzilla or Jacksons King Kong, but enjoyable.

Thinking about it, did the fire actually bother Kong all that much? He went down and all, but the next day his hair wasn't even singed off and he showed no sign whatsoever of burns, yes?

B+ ...same grade I gave Godzilla. Reilly steals the show here for me. A lot of fun in a Jurassic Park III way (I really like JP3).
I'm still team Godzilla, alas I think we're headed for a draw, likely both dying as martyrs for Earth or the circle of life stuff. Kong is more agile & seems younger, he'll probably die trying while Godzilla runs out of steam & life.

I thought parts of him appeared to be on fire. I swear I remember there being a couple of orange patches of hair during the height of the conflict. The next day though? Yeah, he didn't have many visible burns. Still, if he went down from some napalm, they're going to have to find a way to de-power Godzilla's breath and amp up Kong's durability.

It had a better fun factor. It's absolutely going to be a draw. Some people actually think they might end up teaming up after initially butting heads. I am definitely team Kong. He's simply a more human character. There's not really much to Godzilla and he is out right the villain in most of his movies. I will say though that the new version differentiates from that in that he appears to be a protector, rather than a monster. I don't even think he intentionally attacks a single human. I like JP3 as well. I like all the JP movies except for the second one.

No, not really. Not coming from a movie about a giant ape. What so because it's about a giant ape .......that excuses cartoonish scenes?
