They're about to extend Javy Baez, Rizzo's 2020 option was exercised (and his 2021 option for $16.5m option will undoubtedly be exercised, short of him dying) and Bryant is under team control through 2021. Baez will probably get a long-term deal, he's awesome. I imagine Rizzo won't come back after 2021 unless they work out some sort of team-friendly extension, just given that he'll be 32 by the time that deal is up. If I'm the Cubs, and Bryant puts up another quality year this year, I can't help but think they'll try to sign him to a long-term deal. He's 27 right now, entering the prime of his career and he's already had a pretty good one to date. Retooling is certainly in order, but blowing the whole thing up seems rather foolish given the pieces they have in place. Isn't Bryant taking them to court - and if we wins he gains his free agency in 2020 and not 2021? Thought I read that somewhere - I may be off. Was thinking if that was the case Cubs may look to deal him instead of having him just walk in Free Agency in 2020 - of course they could always wait until the trade deadline too. But maybe I'm completely off on this - misinterpreted the whole situation. As expected, Bryant loses his grievance. Typical Boras play. Oddly enough, this definitely increases his trade value if the Cubs are looking to go that route. To me, that would be stupid, as stud 3Bs don't grow on trees but hey.

Buster Olney reporting Dodgers and Red Sox are deep in Mookie Betts talks and David Price could be going as well.

Buster Olney reporting Dodgers and Red Sox are deep in Mookie Betts talks and David Price could be going as well. Alex Verdugo seems to be the key player. Verdugo could be a key player for the Sox for years and the Dodgers might get one year of Betts. I think the padres might be out because they want to ship Wil Myers and the Sox are looking to dump bad contracts. The Sox still want a top pitching prospect, MacKenzie Gore from SD and Gavin Lux. Not going to happen
Thanks, Dave Dombrowski. Great thinking, overpay for David Price and now see Mookie leave. He was the next great Red Sox. The next Williams, the next Yaz. Now he's the next Fisk, the next Boggs

Wouldn't you think the Dodgers would want a long term deal in place before making such a trade - or a handshake under the table he's going to re-up with them? But then again this is the same team that rented Machado giving up prospects for him a couple of years back and just let him walk in free agency.

We can handle that. Tiny dilemma with Bryce playing RF but we can iron that out in Spring Training of 2021.

The sign-and-trade is more of an NBA thing, but the latter just isn't something that the Dodgers could (or should) rely on if they were concerned. In fact, you should never rely on them. All that "my word is bond" shit is great until it's time to write a check. The Dodgers are obviously a contending team so adding Betts would put them over the top, at least that's how they see it. Risk-reward analysis. Plus, if they win, Betts would basically be handed a blank check to stay in LA so that's what they're banking on.

Curtis Granderson hangs ‘em up. One of the game's nicest players (had the pleasure of meeting him once) and his reputation is that of being the ultimate teammate and clubhouse guy. Solid career, I hope he sticks around in a coaching capacity.

From what I read, they never made a serious offer for Machado. It's wise, considering how deep their farm is. But, if Betts win the MVP and the Dodgers win the WS, can they let Mookie go? He will be pricey. And will that set a pattern for the Dodgers?

I've never heard of this guy so I looked him up. Interestingly, he was released by the Orioles on 1/10, claimed by the D-Backs, and then waived again to make room for Starling Marte. Is Valaika the first guy to ever get released and re-claimed by the same team in a three week period?
