I've never heard of this guy so I looked him up. Interestingly, he was released by the Orioles on 1/10, claimed by the D-Backs, and then waived again to make room for Starling Marte. Is Valaika the first guy to ever get released and re-claimed by the same team in a three week period? hopefully.

I find it strange that the Dodgers continue to escape the same vitriol that the Yankees get when it comes to acquiring talent.

Betts and Price headed to the Dodgers. Don’t know what Boston is getting in return. The tank is on? Alex Verdugo. Pitching prospect Brustar Graterol from Minnesota. Three team deal, Twins get Kenda Maeda. Not a bad deal. Will Verdugo replace Mookie completely, probably not. But the Sox had to shed some money. And they got two good prospects who are major league ready.

I find it strange that the Dodgers continue to escape the same vitriol that the Yankees get when it comes to acquiring talent. I think that’s only because they fail to win championships when they do it. With Mookie Betts and David Price now added they can hope they don’t get owned again by a Rendon-less Washington, who will still have the same stud pitchers.

Headline on ESPN: "The '20s are Going to be the Dodgers' Decade".

The Dodgers over the last 10 years have become MLB salary dumping ground. Anyone denying this is lying to themselves.

The Yankees were never a "dumping ground". They overspent like drunk housewives with new plastic at times. And the projected Dodgers salary for 2020 is sweet. Two contracts at 20 million or better, Kershaw at 31 million and Justin Turner at 20 million. Key pieces of this team are making peanuts. Bellinger, 11.5, Seager 7.6. Huge assets are making nothing (relatively). Max Muncy, Walker Buehler. And they have an embarrassment of riches in the minors. It's not a big deal to take one year of Mookie and the rest of David Price.
Bottom line is, the team can't win 100-108 games in 2020 and not have the title. They have to have Betts, even if it is a rental. And it keeps him from San Diego.

The Red Sox are doing what the Yankees did after 2012. The Sox are way over luxury tax. Every dollar spent is two, sing a player for 100,000,000, nope, it's 200,000,000. And it's costing them draft picks. And Betts was never going to resign with Boston.
lols that

Trades its best asset because spent too much? lols Not that millar and Goodman can't or haven't already swatted this away properly, but for context, in the last 3 years, the Blue Jays are 216 - 270, whereas the Red Sox are 285 - 201, with a title. Goodman is dead on, the Yankees re-structured the way they do business and they've been awesome the past few years and have built a team that should contend for the next few years. For further context, the Blue Jays were ranked as the 16th most valuable MLB franchise with Rogers Communications having a valuation as of 2017 of $1.35 billion, putting them at an estimated worth of about $1.5b last year. Why don't they spend more money on free agents? Going into 2020, the Jays have a payroll at around $81m even after signing Hyun Jin Ryu to a 4 year, $80m contract. Ryu's been really good....when healthy and he's never had a fully healthy season since his rookie year. Now he'll be facing off against AL lineups where you'd imagine he'll be less effective. The rest of us applaud this course of hilarity.

But he’s a beast when healthy and vastly underrated. Sometimes a pitcher does very well after switching leagues
