American character actor Thomas Jefferson Byrd has left us suddenly at the age of 70, on September 3rd. He worked several times with director Spike Lee. He was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his performance in the 2003 Broadway revival of Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. He is remembered by VarietyR.I.P. American singer-songwriter Johnny Nash has left us at the age of 80, on October 6th. Signing with ABC-Paramount, he made his major label debut in 1957 with the single "A Teenager Sings the Blues." He had his first chart hit in early 1958 with a cover of Doris Day's "A Very Special Love" Marketed as a rival to Johnny Mathis, he also enjoyed success as an actor early in his career, appearing in the screen version of playwright Louis S. Peterson's Take a Giant Step in 1959. His 1972 reggae influenced single "I Can See Clearly Now" sold over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc by the R.I.A.A. in November 1972. "I Can See Clearly Now" reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on November 4, 1972, and remained atop the chart for four weeks, and also spent the same four weeks atop the adult contemporary chart. German actor Folker Bohnet has left us at the age of 83, on October 6th. While still at drama school, he made three films in quick succession, including the world success Die Brücke (left in the pic above) in 1959, directed by Bernhard Wicki, In this he played Hans Scholten, the most level-headed and adult of the seven boys who were supposed to defend a bridge at the end of World War II. His other films include Factory of Officers 1960, Hubertus Castle 1973 and Luchino Visconti's drama Ludwig II 1973, in which he played the actor Josef Kainz, admired by Ludwig II, in a supporting role. In addition, he was seen in numerous television productions until the 1990s, but he spent most of his career in the theater. R.I.P. Folker Bohnet

American dancer, singer and actor Tommy Rall has left us at the age of 90, on October 6th. He was a prominent featured player in 1950s musical comedies. He later became a successful operatic tenor in the 1960s, making appearances with the Opera Company of Boston, the New York City Opera, and the American National Opera Company. He was perhaps best known for his acrobatic dancing in several classic musical films of the 1950s, including Kiss Me, Kate as "Bill" 1953, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers as "Frank" 1954, Invitation to the Dance 1956, Merry Andrew as "Giacomo Gallini" 1958 and My Sister Eileen as "Chick" 1955. He acted and/or danced in around 25 movies between 1942 and 1988 R.I.P. Tommy Rall

NY Yankee Hall-of-Famer Whitey Ford has passed away at age 91.
In the '50's-early '60's, along with such luminaries as Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, and Yogi Berra, he helped make the Bronx Bombers the top team in baseball, the greatest since the days of Lou Gehrig, the "Bambino" and the "Yankee Clipper" Joe DiMaggio.
May he rest in peace.

Actress Margaret Nolan has passed away. She may be best remembered as Dink, James Bond’s masseuse in GOLDFINGER. She was also, supposedly, the golden girl in the title sequence of the same film. Italian cinematographer and director Camillo Bazzoni has left us at the age of 85, on October 8th. From 1967 he worked as cinematographer with, among others, Lina Wertmüller, Mario Monicelli, Salvatore Samperi, Massimo Troisi, and Franco Rossi. He was also a second unit camera operator on Warren Beatty's Reds 1981. After a series of documentaries and short films, in 1968 he debuted as a film director with Macaroni Combat, Suicide Commando, and a spaghetti western, A Long Ride from Hell. R.I.P. Camillo Bazzoni
