If were appying real world sociology and data and not ape brain movie logic, that's actually not really how it works. No, that's actually how it works you look around you and if you see no hope, you leave for something better. Alternatively you can think like a pig and remain in the mud for the rest of your life like most cretins would. "look around you and if you see no hope, you leave for something better" I'm sure sociologists and criminolgoists would agree with you on that: "If you're really poor and desperate just leave for something better! Even if there is nothing better available!"

And if said idiot chooses to be a criminal or supervillain instead of doing an honest days job since we're talking Batman universe here then prepared to be punished by a certain caped crusader or imprisoned.

What's not a joke is idiot enablers like you determined to keep people down instead of encouraging others to better themselves.

I don't remember that. I thought the movie was simply going in a more "realist" direction with his character. His age effecting his powers, though I don't know exactly how that would work in his case. Like Professor X, whose powers are also effected by age in the movie. Wolverine can't age. He's immortal. For me I need to know where were the other mutants, why was Xavier all of a sudden a nutter, where was Magneto and what happened to Xavier's school. Logan tried to be an edgy movie by parachuting into an already established world without laying the proper foundations first for proper Xmen fans and not just gritty revenge thriller fanboys. Wolverine isn't immortal (he can be killed by beheading). Also he does age (in the comics he's is considerably older looking in Days of Future Past). I assumed in the movie he aged naturally (he'd nearly 200 years old or so by then)

It should probably be pointed out that Arthur Fleck DID have a job. He lost it because of his mental health issues. I guess he should have just chosen not to be mentally ill. He could have also chosen to inherit wealth like the Waynes while he was at it. What a silly looter.

It's been sometime since I watched Joker but those that turn to crime should be punished and those that are mentally compromised should be detained for an undetermined amount of time and taken off the streets.

Wouldn't it be a better idea to fix the material conditions that cause people to turn to crime in the first place thus greatly reducing the need to "punish" criminals?

The point was that poor economic conditions, the lack of mental health care, and the indifference of the rich created supervillainy in Gotham, and that can't and won't be fixed by another rich guy beating them up. At least that's how I interpreted it. Would you argue Joker was a Marxist critique of capitalism? A critique of capitalism for sure, but where are you getting the Marxist part? I'm both Anti-Capitalist and Anti-Marxist, I believe they're both incompatible with representative democracy, which is the only political philosophy an American should subscribe to.

Two great movies, but I prefer Logan.

Joker and it's not even close.
I found the so-called "grittiness" in Logan to be forced. It's overrated and over-hyped crap.
