Well, it's now officially affected me. This morning I lost one of my really good college friends to Coronavirus. Lived next to him for four years of college. Came to my wedding. Was one of twelve guys in my college fantasy football leagues for the last 25 years. 49 years old. He had rheumatoid arthritis - - don't know if that counts as a preexisting condition or not. He had been on a ventilator for the last three weeks and had a heart attack a week ago. The family was waiting to see if he got better this weekend and if not, we're going to take him off of life support on Monday. At least it didn't have to come down to that. Has a 12-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son. Mom and Dad both are still alive. First college friend of mine to die. Had a text chain of fifteen other friends writing about this for the last three weeks. Probably had 5000 texts over that time. I'm absolutely sick over it. Can't believe I'll never be able to talk to him again. That is really sad to read, you have my condolences. We are lucky to be living where we are in the UK, there hasn't been many cases or deaths in the immediate vicinity. So far the numbers don't appear to be going up from the lock down easing but it might be a little too early to tell. It's not looking good in the US though. We're definitely starting to see the uptick in San Diego although, as of last week, the average age of death was still 78. My friend lived in Virginia; I haven't looked to see how they are doing as a state. By the day, I'm getting more pessimistic about school or sports being able to go forward this year. They may start, but I don't think they are going to finish.

Trump wore a mask yesterday. This is actually huge - these braindead dopes that follow everything that he says/does - may actually start wearing one.
Don't disrupt my summer fun - it's all about me! F*cking morons.

Mandatory masks all around me, finally. Now the 19yr olds with breathing problems at the bar patios are trying to hold on.

Some bad news: Coronavirus immunity may only last for months according to a study by King's College London www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jul/12/immunity-to-covid-19-could-be-lost-in-months-uk-study-suggestsPeople who have recovered from Covid-19 may lose their immunity to the disease within months, according to research suggesting the virus could reinfect people year after year, like common colds. In the first longitudinal study of its kind, scientists analysed the immune response of more than 90 patients and healthcare workers at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS foundation trust and found levels of antibodies that can destroy the virus peaked about three weeks after the onset of symptoms then swiftly declined. Blood tests revealed that while 60% of people marshalled a “potent” antibody response at the height of their battle with the virus, only 17% retained the same potency three months later. Antibody levels fell as much as 23-fold over the period. In some cases, they became undetectable.
“People are producing a reasonable antibody response to the virus, but it’s waning over a short period of time and depending on how high your peak is, that determines how long the antibodies are staying around,” said Dr Katie Doores, lead author on the study at King’s College London. The study has implications for the development of a vaccine, and for the pursuit of “herd immunity” in the community over time. The immune system has multiple ways to fight the coronavirus but if antibodies are the main line of defence, the findings suggested people could become reinfected in seasonal waves and that vaccines may not protect them for long. www.standard.co.uk/news/health/coronavirus-immunity-study-few-months-kings-college-london-a4496331.html

I remember reading a report months ago that said the same, i think from Italy, and another not long afterwards from i think Iceland and both were dismissed by the rest of the world. China also said something similar but no one believes anything they say anymore. So i've been saying herd immunity or a vaccine is not the way out of this for a while now and people think i'm nuts!
While a lot of people that contract Covid-19 only suffer mild or no symptoms and recover quickly the ones that get seriously affected can face life changing problems. There are more and more reports of Covid-19 permanently damaging lungs, heart, Kidney, liver and the brain and most people think it's just the elderly or people with underlying conditions that are affected but that's not always the case so you just don't know how bad it will affect you. I'm not a gambling person so i'll continue to avoid it at all costs until they work out how to treat it then it won't matter if you catch it. Treatment is the way out of this mess and not a vaccine in my opinion.

It's now required in the entire state of Louisiana to wear a mask inside any business. And within of six feet of anybody.
Statewide mandate by the governor.

Most of Ontario moving to phase 3 this Friday, except for all urban centres except Ottawa. Will involve pretty much all remaining businesses to open, albeit with very strict guidelines.
The sombre flip to that is... that'll be our final phase until vaccine. That could be years. Masks, 50% capacities... who knows how long. It's strange when the horizon becomes unknown again.

One of my closest friends in Florida, both of his parents have it. Mom is OK for now, but Dad went on a ventilator and while they're confident he'll come off it (50-50 as of this morning), he'll essentially be brain dead for whatever remains of his life if he does. He was a doctor. Awful.

She is a private practitioner and her home is just next building to the hospital. 3 doctors in my home town including 2 that I knew as family acquaintances have died of Covid till now. It's now spreading in the smaller cities in India. I would expect peak in early September may. Yes, Mom is now at home and not meeting with anyone. I am maintaining 5 feet distance. let's see what happens in the next few days.

** Edit **
I suppose that if he is a doctor, he probably contracted it at work from a patient or at the hospital.

I don't know if they do or not, but I'm guessing that his father contracted it from a patient. Tough to say though, Florida is having a tough time controlling this right now so it could be any number of things.

Tough to say though, Florida is having a tough time controlling this right now so it could be any number of things. Jeez, that's awful. So sorry to hear that. My dad has stayed home from his practice and from hospital visits for the last several months for fear of this very thing happening. He's basically taking this opportunity to retire from his practice, and may or may not go back part time when things settle down, but he simply doesn't know what the future will hold at this point. In general people don't often feel sorry for doctors, but this is a really difficult time for anybody in Healthcare. Especially nurses and physicians who are in direct contact with patients, in many cases aren't provided with the best protective gear, and those that are older and fall within the higher risk category.

Yeah man, it's rough. He's in his mid-60s and had otherwise been fit as a fiddle, enjoying semi-retirement having sold his practice last year to a conglomerate although he'd stayed on a temporary basis to help with the transition. Just a bad situation all around but I can't say for sure how he contracted it.

Holy Sh*t - I've yet to see an order put in place that is so far into the future like this below - Philly Mayor - Jim Kenney - has banned public gatherings of 50 people or more until Feb. 28th, 2021
What does this mean for our parades when the Phillies, Sixers, Flyers and Eagles win their perspective Championships ......
