The governor of Louisiana said today, "Hospital admissions are down. Demand for ventilators is down. If things continue like this, I'll be able to cancel some of those orders for more ventilators. But the downward trend of need for hospital beds, doctors, nurses, PPE and ventilators will only continue if we continue to Stay Home and practice social distancing and self isolation. Otherwise things will start to get worse again."

I hate to be the bringer of bad tidings, but this doesn’t look good: www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8195771/UK-worst-coronavirus-hit-nation-Europe-66-000-deaths-scientists-predict.htmlBritain could be worst coronavirus-hit nation in Europe with 66,000 deaths in the first wave of the outbreak – three times Italy’s expected toll - because of the NHS's shortage of hospital beds and intensive care capacity, warn scientists Modelling at University of Washington predicts 151,680 deaths across Europe UK could experience 66,000 COVID-19 deaths by July, and Italy around 20,000 Spain (19,000) and France (15,000) to also suffer devastating number of losses 854 deaths reported here today. That's an extreme prediction. Don't think gap between UK and other countries in terms of total death will be so wide. France has actually already had 10,328 deaths with no sign of slowing down. Think UK will within 25% of either side of Italy/Spain in terms deaths/million of the population. The Daily Mail doesn't deal in rational headlines nor anything which doesn't scream fear. Here's what's written inside that same article:- i.e. They may as well have written "This article doesn't account for field hospitals being set up in the UK nor match up with analysis from within the UK but because it will frighten people we chose to go with the headline".

I barely slept last night, 5am alarm for 6am Canadian relief fund sign up today, worried the site would jam or crash or worse. My online CRA access was frozen, so after a mild panic attack I tried the phone number. No wait time, updated automated messaging & access. All's I needed was SIN# & legal agreement, direct deposit 2-3days. If I don't see that, by Friday, I'm going to fall off the map - would then require getting through via telephone 9-5 avail, waiting for live operator. Looks like Canada may be reaching the start of an apex, I hope. I check daily new case % patterns daily, & the past 3 days have been + 11-12%, compared to last week + 18-19%. Social practices of last week won't show for another 1-2 weeks, yet that's the new normal. I still think July is the safest goalpost for semi-normalcy. There's no way Canada would get cute & try to rush back only to discover more hidden community spreads - only having to f'n start this entire vicious cycle over again. We're not programmed that way thank gawd. $4000 deposited. Now Canadians are anxious because we received too much money! lols E.I. applicants like myself were going to be merged in the emergency fund, $2000/mo, yet because we hadn't seen funds until this week a lot of ppl applied for both. Canada - where we get freaked out by too much money. It will assuredly be taxed next year, & I'm likely just going to stash it in my savings account, in case the world ends again 2nd wave in the fall, emergency money is emergency money. Fully on the brain to repay next spring.

Yes but that's 6% of people under lock down. If people weren't locked down that would be a fuck load more infections and therefore 6% would be a fuck load of deaths

Has anyone else noticed that when the press show pictures of people that are battling the virus or who have sadly died with no underlying health issues the pictures are of over weight people. Isn't obesity and a health condition?

Went to the supermarket this morning - I got yelled at for not following the 'arrows' constructed with electrical tape on the floor directing shoppers I actually feel for these workers - risking their health/lives and their loved ones lives

Isn't obesity and a health condition? I'm of the belief that a vast majority of the population where i live is fat/obese/out of shape
Went food shopping this morning - I'd put a percentage of like 90% of the people I came across - their waist/midsection was bigger than their chest/shoulders/upper torso

Isn't obesity and a health condition? I agree. I have no proof, but it seems like most of the people I see on TV as gravely sick, or having died, looked soft and fat.

Made by the same company that constructed the radioactive bomb blast school desks in the 50's!

It's rained here a bunch in San Diego since the stay-in-place orders were adopted, but two of the bluest skies I've seen in the 15 years I've lived out here have been since the lockdown has started.

Well that's going to be connected to some of the underlying conditions. Other than the smokers, asthmatics, and cancer patients, most of the other underlying conditions had some connection to obesity.

Are people in Italy overweight? I never had that picture of them. Must be all the smokers that are killing the French.

And obesity is most often the result of not exercising and eating correctly. Lots of people never exercise at all. But they love carbohydrates, fat, salt, sugar, and fried foods. And they eat those foods too much.

Dieticians say that exercise does very little when it comes to weight, but it does seem to help a lot with health. I eat more than I should but I get a good deal of exercise, and my doctors have seemed pretty satisfied with me all things considered.

I think Sweden had tightened up its policies to some extent a day after or on the same day you shared the BBC article. It is very difficult to make any comparison because it depends on various factors such as density of population of cities, social interaction behaviours and healthcare system of countries among many other factors. But I will give out some raw figures now with a warning that no conclusion can be made whatsoever. Sweden has 8,419 cases Rest of Scandinavia (Denmark, Norway) + Finland has 13,931 cases Sweden has 687 deaths Rest of Scandinavia (Denmark, Norway) + Finland has 359 deaths Sweden has conducted 54,700 tests so far (which has actually increases sharply as 2 or 3 days back they had conducted very few tests) Rest of Scandinavia (Denmark, Norway) + Finland has 214398 tests Sweden's population is 10.33 millions Denmark's population is 5.82 millions Norway's population is 5.36 millions Finland's population is 5.52 millions
