I bet you thought Tony Soprano was a good man too, eh?
I know this is one of those things you've made part of your shtick, but don't you love Breaking Bad? Not a lot of logic to the joke. Breaking Bad is tremendous; however Walt is an evil man

I agree about those two storylines - they bugged the hell out of me as well. In general I wish everything that is supernatural had been dialed down. I always thought the “political” intrigues were far more interesting. Twin Peaks had this same problem x1,000,000
None the less I'm enjoying it - on Season 8 Episode 2
Thanks, now you got me rewatching it
Got a favorite character. Sandor Clegane for me. The hound was one of the best characters in history.

I saw the first 2 seasons like a couple of years ago
Pretty much binged 3-8 over the last 4 days or so
Was free on my cable package - but I woke up this morning to 2 episodes left - 5&6 - they took the 'Free' off and you have to pay for a subscription.
Didn't watch em in time I guess - but I read up this morning and watched Youtube clips on what happened the final 2 episodes
It was a really good show - not happy with how they wrote some characters though in the final couple of years
I'm an old school wrestling fan - I'm a sucker for the good guy turning evil and vice versa; however wasn't happy with some of the character arcs
Jep mentioned about the show went too far into the supernatural which I tend to agree with a bit - maybe the should have ended it with the White Walker battle - or maybe just not even bothered with that whole storyline at all
Rewatching Twin Peaks for the zillionth time right now - it's a shame - because the same happend to that show - just went to far off into the supernatural
I didn't like the fact that Sensa turned out the way she did - nor that Bran (or however you spell it) ended up King.

3. Before Trilogy. So I think Sunset is the "best" of the 3 for reasons I'll get into below, but Sunrise stuck to my ribs in a particular way. I fancy myself as a film purist and while masterofallgoons and Jep know more about the art of it than I do, I'm a sucker for the simple things, a good script, committed performances and beautiful camerawork and that's what this entire trilogy is. This is really film in its purist form as it's just two people talking. Basically for 100 minutes, 80 minutes and 110 minutes. That's it. And yet, their characters become so clearly defined, they evolve over the trilogy, they learn, they grow, they regress and in the end, they're excruciatingly real and flawed. Very good "ramble". And thanks for the nod, but I am not sure it is warranted - while I do consider myself a cinephile and I have watched many more classics and non-Hollywood movies than the average film-goer, it is one of the great frustrations of my life that I couldn't write a decent in-depth review of a movie if my life depended on it.
"Before Sunrise" reminds me of a great Sunday I spent with an Austrian girl I met at the Youth Hostel in West Berlin (yes, it was THAT long ago). Unfortunately the sequel wasn't like "Before Sunset" - I showed up unannounced in her home town of Salzburg weeks later mistakenly assuming that she would be as happy to see me as I was looking forward to seeing her. Not my happiest memory!

Like I said, suff like this isn't really my cup of hot cocoa. But the missus started watching from Day One and needled me until I started watching. I was lukewarm until Ned lost his head. Then I was hooked.
I agree about the While Walkers. The books barely mention them. Not even the White Walkers but "The Others". And no Night King. The books are much more into the Westeros politics, but I guess the show needed monsters. I think The Others would have come into play a lot more in the last two books but I doubt we will ever know.
I didn't mind the way Sansa turned out. She got shit on too much and it turned her. I didn't like King Bran either. Too cute. They just couldn't do the obvious and make Aegon Targaryen/Jon Snow king. I really didn't like the way Tyrion came out in the last season. He goes from being very smart and competent to being a bumbling incompetent. He get outfoxed again and again by that goof Euron Grayjoy.
Maybe the pluses outweigh the minuses. This is my first rewatch since the show ended. There were so many great things. The wildings attacking the Wall. Blackwater Bay. Arthur Dayne v. Ned Stark et al at the Tower of Joy. The Red Wedding.

Yeah it was enjoyable
A shame there aren't more shows like this to get invested in that are currently on (at least not that I'm aware)
It's a hard to find a show you literally get excited to watch on a weekly basis - used to feel that way about Breaking Bad and the early seasons of The Walking Dead - can't think of the last time I watched an enjoyable show as it was going on during it's run
Not to be that guy - because everybody hates that guy - and I'm assuming there are a lot of other people out there that saw this coming
But did you see the Danny turn coming? I thought they dropped numerous hints the more the show went on that she was going to let power go to her head.
That's kind of the feeling I got with Sansa which I was disappointed with - I get all she had been through - but I didn't expect her to let power go to her head - she seemed very power hungry the shows final couple of years

I wouldn't go that far. They become more significant as the books go on, but we still don't know how much of an impact they have in that narrative. My guess is it'll be even more impactful than what we got on the show, where they build them up as an unstoppable juggernaut and dispatch them in a single battle. I think they changed it to White Walkers from 'The Others' due to the popularity of LOST. Too similar. Great name change, by the way. The final two seasons were a mess, and they didn't nail every character by my estimation, but there were some the show did better than the books. Tywin and Cersei are much more compelling on the show, for example. Even with the White Walkers and the increased use of the dragons, I never felt like the 'fantasy' elements overtook the political intrigue that made the story so compelling. This conversation makes me want to rewatch the series, but the end is going to aggravate me even more the second time around, I think. Kind of the same reason I haven't revisited the books, knowing that thus far it all leads nowhere and it will probably stay that way forever.

I thought Danerys had it in her. The was always put in a good light but she still had the cruelty in her. Crucifying the slaveowners in the one city, burning Randall Tarly. The Targaryans were so inbred that madness ran amok, but I thought maybe she was a good one, more than her father and brother. When she roasted the Tarly's, I was fairly certain she would go off the deep end.
I tried a couple times to get into the Walking Dead, Didn't happen. Same with Mad Men.

The first two episodes of season 1 are great. Literally everything else is dogshit and I stupidly watched out of an idiotic sense of obligations. Sunk cost fallacy. The character "arcs," the writing, the general storytelling, the acting, the pacing, everything about that show sucks. Whatever other storyline you're going to ask me about also sucks.

I love these
How fascinating
Just started - 2 hours long - just went into his abusive father and his 'sham' relationships with Tatum O'Neill and Brooke Shields

I only watched the first season, and I pretty much enjoyed all of it. I don't even really remember many details because that was years ago, but I remember thinking it was a decent enough introductory season, but I just didn't keep up with it. Maybe the latter 4 episodes (I believe the first season was only 6) were weaker, but if nothing else the effects by Greg Nicotero were pretty awesome throughout the whole first season. But those may have fallen off as it went on for all I know. Possibly when he took over as producer/director. My understanding was that most fans thought it declined in quality when Frank Darabont was fired.

Jon Snow was the 'good' Targaryen we were waiting for, the prince who was promised. Dany was always going to go crazy, the look on her face when she tricked the Unsullied owners and killed them all told you all you needed to know when the shit inevitably hit the fan. If there's a heaven in GOT, I like to imagine Ser Barristan's face looking down as Dany burned King's Landing to the ground. Possibly THE most honorable man on the show outside of Ned, he died defending this murderous wench.

Yeah a lot of that is some of the worst stuff in the books, too. The quality in the story diminishes as it goes on, it's clear GRRM is just meandering and doesn't know how to reach the finish line. Dany's storyline goes from annoying to interesting to tedious to interesting back to tedious. The guy literally had to rewrite the fourth and fifth books because he couldn't figure out what to do with her. And Arya is a fan favorite from the beginning, but her story also becomes a snoozefest eventually. Bran's story is intriguing from a lore-building perspective, but it isn't a particularly fun read. Show Cersei is a villain you love to hate, but is fairly nuanced; book Cersei actually gets more cartoonish as the series goes on. My hatred for the Sparrows (religious cult you mentioned) is so deep (in either book or show format), it was the one time I was rooting for Cersei the entire run of the show. If you're a huge fan of the books (as I was) or even the show, the final few seasons (especially the finale) are hugely disappointing. But for a casual viewer, I'm bummed you didn't get to finish it out. I would've liked to see your opinion on those last couple of episodes.
