Rosalind Russell's first scene in Auntie Mame, skipping down the gracefully curved staircase: "Help is on the way, darlings! That lovely little bootlegger is on his way over with another gallon of gin!!""Found a still of that but it would not upload. This will have to do instead. Here's a wider shot of it: Those stairs were originally constructed as part of a set for 1949's Bright Leaf. Warner Bros kept it and its surroundings as a standing interior set into the 1960s, and it also appeared in Tea For Two, Lullaby Of Broadway, Strangers On A Train, Stop, You're Killing Me, So Big, Lucky Me, Band Of Angels, The Spirit Of St. Louis, A Summer Place, Ocean's 11, Cash McCall, Parrish and Rome Adventure among others.

Some great art direction in The Magnificent Ambersons. RKO producer Val Lewton knew how to put the most onto the screen without spending much, and the Ambersons stairs soon thereafter appeared in: Cat People
The Seventh Victim

A new project for ALL ~~ try to find images of THIS staircase in its many movies appearance ! … Thought of starting a new thread but they are not as easy to find as it appeared they might be. If any ARE found .. suggestion : label as Bright Leaf Stairs ( or Auntie Mame Stairs) in such'n'such a movie !

Couple years back, I saw a video someone had put together of clips from some of the films mentioned, and I think they referred to them as the "Auntie Mame stairs." Anyway, I remember thinking that the time would come when I wanted a list of the films in that video, so I put 'em down then for a day like, well, today. And here it is. That's a nice thing about today: it always gets here. Come to think of it, that can sometimes also be a bad thing, depending on what today holds for one.
