I should think the answer would be fairly obvious, but some of you may learn something. And as always......enjoy.

Hey, Aj, it just occurred to me that if I start two relevant threads a week, maybe that will make up for all the relevant threads that Edward-Elizabeth-Hitler won't be starting. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

The Catholic Church calls itself the true church. The Orthodox Church calls itself the true church. I think it's safe to say that neither one is correct

In a video I posted earlier by MLordandGod she was advocating that Catholics convert to Orthodoxy now. I don't advocate this, but I can easily understand why many Catholics are burned up about the direction that Catholicism is going lately.

It's something of a distinction.

Laughing at a funny comment is not trolling, Erjen. I know you don't know a lot about a lot, but I'm starting to think you don't know anything about anything!

I like the Orthodox church. I don't agree with everything they think or do, but I think they're closer to the early church than the Catholics are. And I think their icons look cool.
Regarding your OP though... If I had to guess, a lot of Protestants just weren't aware of what Orthodoxy is all about. And perhaps many of those people felt like there SHOULD be one unified church, but they didn't want to give more credibility to the Pope than they believed was necessary (thus Catholicism was not an option). So upon learning about Orthodoxy, it felt like a good start in trying to unify the body.

In the end, can be only one. The church is the followers of Jesus Christ. Not some man-made structure St. Matthew chapter 16, verse 19: "Thou art Peter, and upon this Rock, I Will Build My Church." The Papacy goes all the way back to St. Peter the Apostle. The Orthodox Church likewise, also has - & believes in - Apostolic Succession. The Patriarchy of the Greek Orthodox Church goes all the way back to St. Peter the Apostle. The Patriarchy of the Indian Orthodox Church goes all the way back to St. Thomas the Apostle. The Patriarchy of the Armenian Orthodox Church goes all the way back to Sts. Bartholomew & Jude Thaddeus the Apostles. The Papacy of the Coptic Orthodox Church goes all the way back to St. Mark the Evangelist. The Bishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Jerusalem goes all the way back to St. James Alphaeus the Apostle.

Another catholic that believes more in the teachings of the church than the Bible. Why didnt peter write about himself being pope? Why wasnt there any mentions of it any where in the NT?

Westerners can not really truly fit into Eastern Orthodoxy. Orthodoxy is steeped in monasticism and millenia of monasticism and a bloodline of suffering persecution.
And if they are joining just because their evangelical pastor no longer hates gay people as much as they'd like - there are plenty of other evangelical pastors who spew enough hate to last them a life time.
