Are we now voting for a deletion or a winner? Depending on the answer I may well change my vote. Still deletion at the moment.

10 votes The Lady Vanishes, 10 votes North by Northwest, 4 votes The Lady Vanishes, 3 votes The 39 Steps, 2 votes Psycho.
You are allowed to vote for more than one, just as before, but only one will be removed from the list this time.

North by Northwest (5) Sorry, Salzmank No worries, I knew that sort of thing would be the case going into this!

5. The Lady Vanishes (I will agree) I have Lady Vanishes tied with Psycho. A very difficult choice for me to make but Psycho is a cultural landmark and very important to film history. Almost changed my vote again, that's how close these two films are in my mind but I am O.K. with this. Salzmank, I am still in shock that Vertigo went so early!!! I know that Strangers did come in at number six in a short list of some truly spectacular films...but Captain Nemo could sink his sub in both of our Hah! Very true. Psycho is a cultural landmark, true, but--as I've written--I find it somewhat cold, unfortunately. Personally, I would have voted it off before my three favorites, North by Northwest, and Vertigo.

It's closed, it's closed! Both The Lady Vanishes and North by Northwest are therefore losers under the tie rule. Which means we're down between two. (I had intended on three, but...) As noted before, we're now voting for a winner--you will vote for either The 39 Steps or Psycho to win the gold. It would now be interesting to bring in everyone's favorites: taranofprydain chose Rebecca, Shadow of a Doubt, and Vertigo. @eriknight chose North by Northwest, The 39 Steps, and Strangers on a Train. jervistetch chose Rebecca, Notorious, and Psycho. @volver chose Rope, Psycho, and Rebecca. shawshanked chose Vertigo, North by Northwest, and Rear Window. tarathian123 thought North by Northwest, Psycho, and Vertigo would be the last three this game picked. (This game actually feels more like Darwinian natural selection than anything else!) Therefore: _________;__________; North by Northwest and The Lady Vanishes (tied for third) Who will win? Cast your votes--THE FINAL ROUND BEGINS NOW!
(It will close at 10 o'clock tonight EST.)

1. The 39 Steps: 2. Psycho: I really only voted 39 Steps for #1 because I've just finished watching it again. As good as it was Psycho has never been a favourite of mine to watch over and over.

This is not the final pair I would have wanted, of course, but I too prefer The 39 Steps to Psycho, and--were I voting--it would be my choice at this point too.

Psycho: The 39 Steps: I (And you know someone had to make this joke sometime: waiting for the results has created Hitchcockian suspense! )

The 39 Steps is an awesome film but I have to be honest. Personally, Psycho has been a much more rewarding film throughout my life. I've certainly watched it more than any other Hitchcock film. Whether viewing it alone, with friends or with family, it always delivers. I can probably quote it by heart. It's part of my DNA. I have to choose...
...wait for it...
...PSYCHO!

1. 39 Steps 2. Psycho The 39 Steps which is my #1 pick and reviewed a few weeks back on the 'classics watched' thread is an almost flawless picture. The casting is first-rate, the film starts literally with a bang from the get-go, displays endless examples of inventiveness on a small budget, the dialogue is great, the look of the film is very 'suspenseful' it has some truly thrilling and clever action sequences like the chase under the bridge through the dense fog, the plot is interesting and constantly taking unexpected twists and turns like the memorization of the 'secret plans'. The chemistry between Robert Donat and Madeleine Carroll is electric. 39 steps never seems dated like Psycho which looks a 'product' of its time. To me a truly 'great' film is essentially 'escapist' entertainment, and for 86 minutes, I fall in love with cinema all over again. It is essential Hitchcock, where he finally came together on film (1935) and show-cased all his talents as a Director to be taken note of in the future- Look here: The British Film Institute ranked it the fourth best British film of the 20th centuryThis films deserves to be on top over Psycho. You can look at the well-spring of 39 Steps: It is Hitchcock's announcement on film "Here I am to stay on the international stage". The 39 Steps 1935 Sabotage 1936 Young and Innocent 1937 The Lady Vanishes 1938 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>!!! The 39 Steps was one of Orson Welles' favorite Hitchcock films, and of it he said: "oh my God, what a masterpiece!" The film currently holds a 98% rating on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, based on 44 reviews. Its critics' consensus reads: "Packed with twists and turns, this essential early Alfred Hitchcock feature hints at the dazzling heights he'd reach later in his career. 39 Steps- what's not to love?

Psycho: II
The 39 Steps: II
If this game ends in a tie... I won't know what to do.
Please know that, if I have to break a tie, I will vote for The 39 Steps. I don't want to have to be a tiebreaker, and we still have about 2 hrs. to go, but just so that no one is surprised, shocked, offended, etc.,...

It does indeed. I'm surprised more people haven't come on here for the final round. Should I announce it all over the place like a fool? I really don't want to have to vote to break a tie.

Yes. Or, at least tag everyone that has been participating on an announcement that the final vote is upon us. Players will be despondent for weeks if they miss the chance to cast a vote.
