Of all the things in the movie that struck me as dumb, one if the dumbest was Brian Tyree Henry's character doing a conspiracy podcast where here talks about the super secret place where he works without disguising his voice at all. Literally all it would take is for one co-worker to hear the podcast and be like, "Hey, I recognize that voice".

You say you've seen the other movies, and yet you continue to ignore the fact that Hollow Earth comes from them. Maybe your discussion with Hunter is bleeding into ours, because I said nothing about suspension of disbelief from prior movies. I said some of your "plotholes" are directly attributable to them, ie Godzilla not sensing Kong on Skull Island and the existence of Hollow Earth. Did you know Hollow Earth comes from the previous movies? Because Hollow Earth comes from the previous movies. Building Mechagodzilla being too OTT kind of throws me for a loop. Are they supposed to just not depict one of Godzilla's most iconic nemeses? Needless to say, he was added because they needed the two "heroic" monsters to team up and fight another. It's not like Godzilla and Kong could just talk out their differences, so have them fight to what end? PS: Hollow Earth comes from the previous movies. But that is the fundamental problem with Hollywood. They are turning cinema into TV series. I shouldn’t have to watch 3 films before I watch this. You can watch “Rocky III” and never have watched the first two and still enjoy it for what it is. You can sit down and watch “Godfather Part II” and never watch “Godfather” and enjoy it. Of course you’ll get more out of it, if you see the original. But it’s not required. The MCU is ruining cinema. All these universes think they have to become a connected saga. The amount of stupid in this thread is breathtaking from morons expecting realism in monster fight movies to you pretending that your favourite DC movies aren't also connected sagas with multiple sequels. You're the third vegetarian that I've found annoying on here next to prime etc and that can't be a coincidence.

You can watch Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and never have seen Man of Steel or BvS and still know what’s going on. It’s not required. Because Zack Snyder makes cinema. Not TV series connected dramas. My favorite superhero films of all time are “The Dark Knight” (do you have to see Batman Begins to understand this film? Or does it stand on its own?)... “Superman” (1978), “Spider-Man 2” (again, it gives you more insight to see part 1, but you don’t have to). Maybe my post isn’t stupid, it’s over your head and you don’t get it. There is a difference between a sequel or a saga (Like Rocky, The Dark Knight Trilogy, etc...) and a shared universe. If I have to watch “Godzilla, Kong Skull Island and Godzilla:King of Monsters” to have any clue what’s going on in “Hollow Earth” and the entire 2nd act of “Kong vs Godzilla” then I’m lost as a causal moviegoer. Cinema should make films that stand on their own. That at any moment a causal movie goer can watch the movie and enjoy it without having to do homework to enjoy an entire act of the film. That’s why I prefer the DCEU, because in ZSJL, I didn’t have to watch a solo “Aquaman, Flash, WW, Batman, Cyborg and Superman film to understand Snyder’s JL.

You have to watch Batman Begins to understand how Bruce came back to Gotham and how Bruce's and Rachel's relationship began. In the DCEU you have to watch Man of steel to discover how Clark came to earth in the first place and BVS to see how Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman met then joined forces with Batman and WW agreeing to find other members to replace a dead Superman thus the idea of the Justice League. You're so out of your depth it's not even funny. Even the DCEU is going to be a multiverse with Flash so you would have to go back 30 years of DC movies longer than the MCU starting with Michael Keaton. As I said you're out of your depth, leave the cretin DC Marvel wars to the old forum.

I definitely like it better than you and I definitely like it better than King of the Monsters.
The first half is boring, in large part because the characters and directing is boring. Once they go into the center of the Earth the movie gets quite a bit better imo.
One thing I noticed is that the Millie Bobbie Brown character and the 2 guys she is with are completely pointless. You could edit their scenes out of the movie and almost nothing would change.
5.5/10

You could just show the evil guy and his henchmen (driver) a few times in cut scenes to show they are up to something, then MechaGodzilla emerges. What purpose did Eleven from Stranger Things and those two guys serve? They uncovered the truth? So what? Did it change anything in the story? Did they stop MechaGodzilla? What if they had uncovered a weakness that they could have used to help Kong defeat MechaGodzilla? Wouldn’t that have been cool? Every time it cut to them, I felt like i was bored. I was waiting for them to go back to Kong.

As you say "so what?" The entire place and the main villain is destroyed by mechagodzilla anyway.

2. Why can’t monster movies learn from “Jurassic Park”? There is literally a blueprint for an excellent monster film. Build up, and then build tension. This film feels like a kid with ADHD wrote it. They are copying Jurassic Park--granted that the writing quality has declined. That movie spent a lot of time sitting around with pointless chit chat until they got to the dinosaurs and even then they were sparingly inserted and we had to endure so much with the kids--eating jello and other things of very little cinematic value. They didn't have to put kids into it--there had been many dinosaur movies with no children. The kid in the Valley of Gwangi has an important role but he's not in it much.
People say well, you can't expect intelligence from a giant monster movie. The original Godzilla had that. It was dramatically well-made.
I don't remember Gorgo being poor in the basic storytelling. How about Quatermass and the Pit? That movie ends with a guy driving a construction crane into the Devil. Yet it is a serious film.
Everyone knows the story is just an excuse for the monster fighting--but they could employ more intelligence in doing it. It's almost as if they have a contest to see how stupid they can make a film.

Using technology to remain the apex species, only for the technology to go rogue and destroy the humans that created it.

No, I saw the previous movies, and yes they suspended disbelief too, but this movie didn't just suspend disbelief. It smacked it, bent it over, and had its way with it! I didn't think I had to mention that the science was too over the top to build Mechagodzilla having already mentioned the spaceships. And as for it being controlled by someone, that was way over the top too. At that point why not just make it a programmable robot? Or a have a pilot in it? Or any number of things that would have been more easy to accept. And an unknown energy source that they couldn't have known about because it comes rom a place that no ones every been to that's as mythical as My Little Pony's homeworld? Any decent writer of science fiction/fantasy could have come up with much more plausible explanations that needed fewer leaps of logic. And this movie is full of them those leaps. Too many. Many worlds in movies (or TV, novels, comics, videogames, whatever...) have suspension of disbelief written into their very fabric. But then they re-write the rules as such that they make sense within those boundaries. This movie didn't do that. Instead it just did "whatever". "Whatever" doesn't come across as plausible. It comes across as messy. This movie is a mess. This movie already has suspension of disbelief in the giant monsters. To throw in spaceships, and giant robots, and hollow earth, and anti gravity, and holes from Hong Kong to the middle of the earth, and axes the size of buildings... its just too much. After while its just stupid. All this movie needed was a scenario whereby the two monsters meet and fight. Simple. All this other stuff and all the characters was overkill. You say you've seen the other movies, and yet you continue to ignore the fact that Hollow Earth comes from them. I didn't care for any of the previous movies, so while I have seen them, I wouldn't know that Hollow Earth was brought up in them. I just went on the assumption that it was mentioned in the previous movies. I wouldn't even have cared if Hollow Earth wasn't mentioned in the previous movies, it was the coolest scene and idea in the movie. The inverted gravity scene is very neat.

Len, I'm just not understanding your gripe with spaceships and Hollow Earth in a ridiculous monster movie already. It's like complaining that zombies in movies can't find a decent deodorant shop within a mile while they're roaming around aimlessly looking for human flesh all day. Thats literally on of the worst analogies I've ever heard. My analogy would be: "Why are there spaceships in a zombie movie? Why are we exploring Atlantis in the middle of a zombie movie? Why are there time travelling cyborgs in this zombie movie? Why are Smurfs saving the day in this zombie movie?"
If you were watching Star Wars and a time traveler from a post apocalyptic Earth showed up there you'd be like "What the fuck is that?!" and you'd be right to wonder!
Throwing EVERYTHING at the wall in the hopes that it sticks just makes for messy filmmaking, not extravaganza. This movie would have been much better and much simpler if they cut out half the dumb concepts they didn't fully have time to explore in the first place, and half the dumb characters that ultimately didn't amount to anything. It was overstuffed.

So you had a problem with Hollow Earth spaceships and a secret mysterious land but you didn't have a problem with an ugly looking giant robot being operated telepathically by a dead monster? It's criminal that you made this thread. We already have spaceships they're called spacex shuttles, moron.
