Kershaw was once regarded as the #1 'Prep' (High School) pitcher in baseball in 2006 when he was selected with the 7th overall pick in the draft
This year -
Andrew Painter has been regarded as the #1 'Prep' (High School) pitcher in the game who just went in the 1st Round
I can just see him - 'Painting the corners' of the strike zone like Picasso

Nah. Just a pitcher. His strikeout to walks ratio is nuts: 143: 26. I like 'The Painter' In his sophomore year he had a 1.43 ERA while leading his team to the state championship game

2005 - Chris Volstad
2006 - Clay Kershaw

2011 - Dylan Bundy
2012 - Max Fried
2013 - Kohl Stewart
2014 - Brady Aiken

As you can see, the success rate isn't that great. One Star, a few solid arms, a lot of mediocrity, and two of the worst draft picks of all time (Harrington and Aiken). HS arms are such a crapshoot. I'm not wishing "bust" on anyone but if a was a GM, I would never mess with a HS pitcher.

Nice trade there. Floyd won 63 games for the ChiSox. The pitcher the got back, Freddy Garcia, won 62 fewer.
In fairness, the 2001 draft was shit. Other than Joe Mauer and Mark Teixeira (taken right after Floyd), there wasn't much in the 1st.

I fully expect 'The Painter' to thumb his nose at the University of Florida.... And then start 'Painting' Masterpieces at CBP ............
According to mlb.com - 23 players since the draft started in 1965 have made the jump right from being drafted to the MLB
